Re: Cool Old Press Photos: The 1957 Buicks

The mid 50's buick special is by far one of my favorite cars.
I wouldn't care if they only had 100hp. I'd still drive one
bone stock. You can't dream up lines and proportion like those.

Will we ever have a cars like that again?
    True class.

Re: Cool Old Press Photos: The 1957 Buicks

When I started at the Buick dealer in 1963 we had a few customers who were still driving these. They were great old cars especially when judged by the standards of the day.

Extra point question - how did you actuate the starter on this car?

Did they have a floor starter switch.

I do know that they all had seat warmers.
This goes back to an old thread about new tech in new cars
and how the old luxury models already had'em.

You're on the right track but not specific enough. It's the specifics that make this interesting - and difficult.

I forgot about the floor start switch! Those are awesome designs.
              Escaped on a technicality.

Wasn't it located under the gas pedal? You had to have it on the wood to activate it?

My old Chiltons lists it as on... the carburetor. Yikes!

You win a free Diet Cheerwine! Or a real one when you come to Maxton. You pushed the pedal once or twice to the floor (depending on the weather), turn the switch "ON" (key optional) and press the pedal to the floor. These were made in an era when locking the ignition was not essential in many areas and the switch was made to either be used with a key or you could bypass the key and get the "off/on/acc functions. I truly don't recall if the starter switch was on the carb or under the pedal.
