Re: Top 11 Greatest Production Engine Names

    Hey Brian

    Good list!!

#8 has an incorrect factoid though, the first GM OHV V8 was produced by Chevrolet in 1917-18 (albeit in very limited numbers). Being (mostly) a Ford guy, it's funny getting Chevy lovers with that trivia question, most of them will tell you 1955 was the first Chev OHV V8. ;D

Glad to see two Buick's in the list, I was surprised though not to see "Nailhead" in there, that's the one I was expecting when I clicked on the blog.

Being primarily a Mopar guy, I can't believe I'm saying this, but what about chevvy's "turbojet?"

I always thought the name Nailhead was not a compliment because it referred to tiny valves on those engines.

Maybe not have been a compliment, but it was the hot engine to have for a while there, had to be something to it.

Not a candidate for the Top 11 -- heck, not even an auto motor -- but I always thought an outboard boat motor company named "Seagull" was inspired.

How about the 283 with "Ram Jet" fuel injection?

How can there be no "Boss" or "High Riser"?

I will have to nominate the Packard Thunderbolt for the list.
Being that it is a straight eight, you may not find a bigger chunk of cast iron under the hood of a passenger car.
