This is a time bomb ticking here in parts of Missouri.

Many households used oil heat and everyone had a tank buried
in the ground.
I'm sure at some point they'll have to have an EPA inspection
to sell home.

My brother has one buried under his two car garage and still
uses oil heat.
When he remodeled two years ago, I tried- to no avail- to have
him cap off the tanks and pour slab over top of them.....put in gas heat.

I think this is going to come back and bite him in the future.

Our government at it's best.

Picking on a 90-some year old man........a WWII veteran and POW, to boot, not even taking the other aspects of his life's work into consideration......perhaps some of our members in the A/V sector could help shed some light on this to the general populace.

I once worked for a guy out of an old gas station. The EPA made him dig out the tanks. One was located partially under the building, no one knew this until they started digging. One government agency wouldn't let work continue, and the local government wouldn't allow the partially dug up tanks to remain uncovered, and the EPA would not allow them to cover them back up. Took 2 years to straighten out, of course the owner went bankrupt between the expense, and not being able to run his business with the lot torn out.

Yeah the government has no concept of "Good Faith". The simple fact he did something about it when he knew should be rewarded, or at the very least thanked. Nothing worse than ludicris punishments for an honest citizen trying to do something right.

All be forewarned. That dark spot on the ground out behind your shed has the potential of being the next big revenue generator for your government. Take it seriously...it's not enough to know better than to dump oil anymore, if you have an area where the ground is polluted it needs to be dug up and disposed of properly and quietly. Soon.
