Re: Lohnes' Pic of the Week: The Demo Derby Car That Wasn't

I have only been to a couple of demo derbys. Funny how many of the fans in the bleachers hobble by on crutches or canes, or appear to have stiff backs and necks... ??? ;D

those cars are worth $1000 here in southern oh-hi-uh. In ANY conditon. (Unless they've already been derby'd!) They are few and far between nowadays. I have good friends who derby. They would drive to Kali for a rust free one!

Next time you try and derby..remember - to prevent that type of failure again - reinforce that oil pan!

My friends derby car has 7 quarts of slick50 in it when he competes..............$$$$$$..? i dunno.

I'd say your derby car ended up being someone else's derby car.

Still remember the fun we'd have the month before the derbies back when I was a teenager working in a boneyard..

We took a MINT '73 Olds 98 2-door.....white paint/interior/landau top, 455....not a single damned thing wrong with it, other than some old musty clothes in the trunk and a buttload of silver dollars lining the bottom of the windshield.

Belonged to an elderly gentleman, and decided it was time for it to go.

Hacked that poor thing in a similar fashion to Brian's, except we were required to weld AND chain the doors...ran the exhaust through the hood, rain flappers and all.

marine gas tank, chicken wire over the rear window opening.

It was a BEAST........and being in a junkyard, we'd "test" our work after hours, running it and the other derby cars all around....no loss if we whacked a couple of clunkers, right?

ended up high-centered on a telephone pole laid down as a boundary marker, courtesy of a '75 New Yorker.

            HA! That's hilarious.

Interestingly, if you look at the rules of most derbies these days, New Yorkers are on the list of cars that are not allowed to compete.

            In-deee-structible.

If you are going to enter a derby there's a rules sheet provided by the company putting it on. I think I saved a copy somewhere but I know the New Yorkers were on it along with a couple Cadillacs and Lincolns.

                  Hi,
It's not a New Yorker its an Imperial with perimeter frame, early sixties I think. At least here on the left coast where I derby.

Imperial! Yep that's right. Thanks for the correction.
