Re: Crane Purchase Still On According to Scorpion

    It's like a freak'n rollercoaster. :
    How's everyone enjoying the ride?

Man, I feel for the employees.
I wish'em nothing but the best.

Call me a pessimist but Scorpion is a crazy big
machine shop will FULL C.A.D.. I just don't see
Why they need anything more than the name and patents.
    Hopefully I'm wrong.

Imagine their poor employees. Every other day there is another rumor with a ray of hope only to shot down the next.

While that's a pretty accurate description of Scorpion, I can see why it would make sense for them. Here's one wild guess that would explain both the liquidation and Scorpion's claim they are still buying Crane. First, reasons Scorpion would be interested in Crane's assets.

        1. Scorpion already makes rocker arms, valve springs, pushrods, and other valvetrain parts. Getting their hands on cam grinding equipment could potentially fill a hole in their lineup, and a big catalog of cam patterns would be even better.

        2. There is a good chance Scorpion may already be a supplier to Crane, with Crane buying these and reselling them. Owning the Crane brand would let Scorpion sell these at the prices Crane was charging their distributors and pocket Crane's markup on them.

        3. Just because they're crazy big doesn't mean they might not want to be an even bigger machine shop. Their website mentioned plans to open a second factory, and they're already near Crane.

However, there's a couple reasons Scorpion might not want to acquire Crane outright:

        1. Crane's built up a lot of debt. I've heard plenty of weird "They owe me money" stories since they closed their doors, from small suppliers up to Wachovia.

        2. Several of the things in Crane's lineup are quite a ways from Scorpion's usual products. They may have no interest in spark plug wires or electronics.

So, here's one theory about what may have happened that would explain both groups' actions. Crane had to close their doors when a bank that had been lending them money decided to quit. Scorpion is interested in their assets, but rather than buy the company along with its obligations, lets LiquiTec put the business up for sale. Next step, which could just be in progress now, would be Scorpion approaching LiquiTec and making a big enough offer on the machinery and inventory they want, letting others grab the rest. So Scorpion ends up with the Crane Cams brand name and possibly some of the other trademarks, the building (it's not for sale on LiquiTec's site, though I heard Crane didn't own it so it may belong to a real estate company), and many of the employees.

Kinda where I was at with it.
I'm sure the auction will commence, I think you're correct about a lot of it.
Possibly let Crane payoff some of its own debt after the fact then have
Scorpion come in to say the day.
Unfortunately this is something we won't have to speculate for to
          much longer.

Let's hope it works out for the best. :-\

            Is scorpion actually good stuff?

I hadn't heard much about them before, All my rocker arms are Harland Sharp which I have no complaints about other than the enormous size.

I wonder if they make poncho stuff.

Re: Crane Purchase Still On According to Scorpion

My Scorpion rockers just came in on Thursday and they are suuuuuper nice pieces. They have a very good reputation with the BBF crowd.

My guess is that Scorpion will probably buy the valvetrain/hard parts aspect of Crane and the other stuff like electronics, will go away.

A little early to be hittin' the sauce. :D

I checked and they have no pontiac (BASTURTZ) but they are made in the U.S. That's 99% of the battle as far as I"m concerned.

Someone should ask them if they need any BBC rocker arms publicly evaluated. 8)
