  • Woodward and/or Back to the Bricks

I have been to Woodward one time and it is an experience. It is a long drive from Florida so I was hoping to get some local input on options.
Flint - Back to the Bricks
Is it worth going up to Flint for Friday activities?
Does any thing happen during the day on Friday or just after 5:00pm in Flint?

    Detroit - Woodward
How do you get a list of parking locations and prices as that appears to me to be a nice idea for Saturday?

This is a little side trip but well worth it: www.gilmorecarmuseum.org/

I stopped there on PT a few years ago. It takes a full day, but is the best museum I have ever been to.

Got a late notice from a friend to go to the 50th Anniversary of the Camaro & the Woodward Dream cruise.

I'm a nOOb on the Dream Cruise but have my trip planned out with a friend & his kids.

On the 17th I'll be in Lansing, MI 48917, at the Red Roof for the GM Camaro Factory Fest.

The 18th to the 20th we will be at the Double Tree down by Dearborn.

I'm trying to figure out what is where , etc , The Dream Cruise Web Site is not very helpful.

Is the 11 to 15 miles from our hotel to the different venues that crazy to get to as I've heard ?

Thank in advance for any info

Here is what I know from my last visit.
Woodward from the Detroit Zoo (8 mile I think) to Pontiac will be a parking lot on Saturday. However, it was my experience that the side streets were not very bad so you can get around pretty easy EXCEPT on Woodward. Friday wasn't too bad at all. It got busier on Friday night but still no where near as bad as Saturday. Pontiac was more burnout friendly and less congested than the townships farther south.

I've been to the Woodward Dream Cruise many times, I don't take my GTO (we always rent either a Camaro, Mustang or Challenger) so "on Woodward" parking is not a priority. Most of the businesses that have parking charge from $50 to $100 and are already spoken for. It is a "cruise" so there are cars coming and going all the time, so if you're lucky you can slip into a parking spot as it becomes available. I have had good luck finding a spot on Woodward but usually later in the evening. KEEP IN MIND, THE POLICE SHUT IT DOWN BETWEEN 9PM AND 10PM ON FRIDAY AND SATURDAY NIGHTS. Then about 11pm cars start to come back for some higher speed crusing. I have always found "off Woodward" parking one to two blocks off Woodward in the neighborhoods, stay above 9 mile road and the neighborhoods are pretty nice. Just observe the signs people post who don't want you in front of their house. Another tip, if you are trying to bypass Woodward to get around some of the congestion, Woodward runs in a North Westerly direction and all the side streets run North/South and East/West, you might get off Woodward one block over and when you go to get back on Woodward you may be 6 or 8 blocks away.

PS It is absolutely amazing to watch the police clear thousands of cars off Woodward in a half hour...... it is well worth sticking around to watch.

Hope this helps, this is a must do event, they claim 30,000 cars and I can't prove 'em wrong. John.
