  • Next Year's ECTA Schedule

    Folks -
I'm a bit surprised that Keith or Tonya didn't post this (Joe's busy making a living building cars, so I'm not surprised that HE didn't get around to it). Anyway, the ECTA schedule (that's the Maxton Monster Mile for those of you not up on LSR) has been set and is now available on the ECTA website at <ecta-lsr.com>. As usual, we will host 5 land speed racing events at the Maxton-Laurinberg airport in south central North Carolina. The first event in April also includes the Hot Rod Magazine Top Speed Shootout, and the September meet has included a Super Sport Bikes Shootout (Keith, is this still on for next year?) All vehicles are welcome at all meets, so bring your bike in April or your car in September - we'll love to have you.

This is great fun and you'll be welcomed by the best folks on the planet. It's real grass-roots racing, with as little ego as I've seen in any racing venue. So come on and have a BLAST!

Significant improvements are scheduled for the track during the off season, so the racing surface should be in the best condition since the facility has been available to us racers.

See you in April and hopefully thruout the season

    Re: Next Year's ECTA Schedule

Anyone who has not done this really needs to. It's worth the road trip. Maxton racing is just like the drags must have been in the '50s: relaxed, innovative, open to anyone, and totally grassroots. It's the stuff Junkies live for.

Been 221 there myself. It was the fastest pass there for a bodied car for a little while. Thanks, Wayne Jesel.

For those of you who don't know. 221 is a really big deal there despite the fact that David will never tell you so.

P.S. Keith and the rest of the ECTA gang are totally Junkie friendly.

        Re: Next Year's ECTA Schedule

Yeah it really was... David jumped in this guys car and handled it pretty well in a wicked cross wind... I was thinking it was 221.275 and the fastest the guy had gone in the car Ever was 221.205 mph...

Needless to say Jimmy came back out with some goodies and ran 230 later in the year...

          Re: Next Year's ECTA Schedule

All of you older farts have me hooked now. Hopefully the rollbar will turn into a cage and I'll make an attempt at the 200 club. If not, well then I'm setting some records that get recorded this time :o. in the b/classes

Oh did I mention that last years Hot Rod top speed was one of the best vacations I've ever had! Even with the 20hr drive each way by myself ;D

            Re: Next Year's ECTA Schedule

I don't fall into the old fart category. But I can tell you that 200 is no easy task. It seems to require a larger amount of thought than money, which you would think is fairly hard to believe. So DF's 221pass is substantial, makes my 212 look like skirts and bewbies. I'll have to check the wall in the trailer, but i thnk tonya is still faster than me at Maxton.... :o 8) ;D

I'm not really worried about the Horsepower side Dave, more worried towards the safety side.

                      Re: Next Year's ECTA Schedule

I had a great time last year in April with my stock '88 GTA, ran 129.6 best, not bad for a 19 yo, 2x Long Hauler. The max you can go with out a cage is 135. I will be back next year!

Now that Dave Maty's pride is still intact....I would like to invite anyone that is looking for a great time at a friendly and welcoming venue to join us in Maxton. If you don't have a ride ready, but want to hang out and get involved we would love to have you too. We've been known to throw newbies into the fray and put them to work. What a better way to get to know us.

And there is the lovely donya now... I started calling the guys Jeith at home, i think its catching on. Its easier than refering to you with 4 names, now its donya and jeith....
On the other note, we love voluteers. And I would always be happy coming in second behind tonya, for the record...

                            Re: Next Year's ECTA Schedule

Hello all, I am not new to cars or hot rodding, but am interested in getting into LSR and being on the East Coast, you sound like the group for me. Acknowledging that I know absolutely nothing about LSR (other than it is cool and I wanna do it), what recommendations would you veterans give a newbie to get started?

I am going to go to the ecta-lsr site and try to find information regarding licensing, brackets or classes, car requirements, tech inspections, etc. but would love to have some training curriculum or agenda to follow, so I don't waste time.

Obviously, I'd love to come and participate with an experienced team (no better training than experience), but would be more than happy if I was only allowed to observe close at hand. I think anyone would suggest I do this, before I even consider building a LSR car myself. As I read in a thread somewhere, it takes more thought than money to be a successful LSR racer. Interesting perspective, I have always heard; "You need more horsepower than you think you need and more money than you have".

all of this is dependent on your goals really, if 200mph is your goal, then your wallet will be involved. If you just wat to race and have fun, maybe even win a points championship, then you could do that in theory with the car you have or for less than $1000
