  • Bloom County Fans (80s memories required)

You can go back there on your computer for cheap. I'm REALLY cheap so I just got the first four years for $1, but for like $25 (and climbing) you can have it all....

I bought the book "Night of the Mary-Kay Commandoes" back in 1989. My kids read it now.

The (two) area newspapers where I Iived back then didn't run Bloom County, whatta shame. They did run The Far Side and Herman. I've got The Far Side daily calendar pages on the wall at work.

And my dad loved Herman so much, we'd get him Herman books for Christmas. Dad would sit in his recliner and open the newspaper and go straight to the comics to see what Herman did that day. He would belly laugh every time. I've never seen anybody so entertained by anything. His most favorite was, Herman was sitting in the lawyer's office. The lawyer said, "If you plead innocent and are found guilty, you'll get 30 years. If you plead guilty you'll get ten years."

Herman said, "What if I plead very VERY guilty?" That's the one that got Daddy. That's the one that hit him just right. But that's not Bloom County, somebody decided we couldn't see Bloom County back when it was running daily.

Steve Dallas, Cutter John, snugglebunnies... Nope, don't remember anything about it. Had books, they were all stolen, one at a time like my Calvin and Hobbes books.

Have the entire collection in hardback. As well as (not complete collections of) Calvin and Hobbes, The Far Side, Dilbert, early Garfield, The Boondocks... I love having my own library, however small it is.

I sent the link to my wife, she 6 years older than me and might remember them more than I do. I'm thinking they didnt run in our local paper but maybe the Indy paper or Muncie?

The only reason I got the school paper everyday while going to Univ of Nebraska, they had Bloom County and Farside. Calvin and Hobbes was always a favorite of mine as well. Calvin's wild imagination matched my own as a kid.
