Someone had said something about the ram. I pulled the cover it has two slots but they both have a 512 stick. Any clue if I could get two gig sticks?

They have these for $15 would one work and leave in one of the 512 cards. And if I wanted later upgrade to 4GB?

one should work (page 53 of manual- needs to be in specific slot if you are only using one DIMM) but make sure it is DDR2-5300 spec. The max is 4gb so 2x2 should work. Amazon is pretty good about returns but I would verify the return policy just in case.
I wouldn't be surprised when it costs more to put old memory spec memory in something than whatever the current spec is... storage costs.
Couple of caveats - it may not want to boot with mixed RAM (1x2G and 1x512M) or may not recognize all of it. Stay with 1x2 if that is the case. They "should" be the same speed and work okay but that hasn't always been my experience.
Second, Windows may want to be reactivated so having your PID available before doing this is pretty important.Last edited by Beagle; August 21, 2015, 06:00 AM.Flying south, with a flock of bird dogs.

We did it in the past by putting the slower memory in the first slot because we didn't have a choice a lot of times... sometimes it worked fine, a lot of times the machine became unstable. We have cheap choices these days, and not a lot of excuses to not get the right kind the first time.Flying south, with a flock of bird dogs.

I've been using the 10 year old garagenet laptop recently (32 bit cpu, 1 gb memory) and I have no issues with speed. Right up until I hit YOUTUBE or any internet site that is advertisement heavy (like THIS ONE) and it lands promptly on it's face no matter what OS I have on it.Flying south, with a flock of bird dogs.
