  • Don't miss the logos on the video. It doesn't matter who won the race Fiat Chyrsler won the event. The fact that both sides cheated blatantly and indiscriminately was to be expected. The are no referees on Jackass either. Plus if the clocks are correct 6.0 in the 1/8 is pretty stout for a stock-ish motor.

GMG didn't show any good pics of the engine compartment, just a closeup of the motor and by the air intake tube, I'm wondering if they put a turbo on it like I told them to do. There was a reason DF stuck a fogger system on the Genital Gayhem in the 11th hour and even with that big of a hit they couldn't win, which makes me think Gas Monkey turbo'd the Hell Cat motor.

          • Geriatric Mayhem

Like all good, time-crunched gearheads I record far more then I ever watch when broadcast. There was a feature awhile ago on the new Viper. I thought it was a How-it's-made dream car bit. I was wrong, it was a developed-by-TEN network highlight of California's poor roads and a lake bed that was less cracked then the roads. I couldn't watch more then 5 minutes of the poorly-edited, edited-for-10-year-old dribble. I like the Viper (hate the noise the 10 cyl. makes) but that show would make me buy a Camry it was so poorly made. Is this all that's left of the once-vaunted and revered magazines of our youth?

            • No turbo. I saw a pic of the Dart with the stock blower sticking through the hood. The Mayhem probably makes a lot more power than the Dart. When you only have 1/8th mile to work with, the 60 foot is critical because you don't have much track to run them back down. The Dart was second off the line but first to the 60 foot. It hooked and booked.

Sorry for the obvious "gotcha" attempt but a Hellcat is already supercharged. A turbo on top of the would be quite a feat. Especially considering that as far as I know the ECU hasn't been accessed yet. Now pulleys........ THAT has been done.

Correction. The ECU was cracked in March..... by Texans.

Yep. The Dart looks to be a tube-chassis car (or at least, it's back-halved). 4-link rear, completely stripped and attacked with a hole-saw. Front end looks like it might be tube as well. I bet it weighs 2500lbs. No wonder it hooked and moved out quicker. Also, you can see in the video that Mayhem spun and hopped pretty bad off the line but it started making up the difference on the top end showing it was indeed making much more power. Track just wasn't long enough for them.

Arron said it was a back half car, and if you look at a rear shot of each car they had basically the same size tire.

                    • That brings up an interesting question. If you had a Hellcat, would you tune it? I mean, aren't 10.90s on drag radials enough? Personally I'd leave it alone, street drive it on the drag radials and keep a pair of slicks, floor jack and stands in the trunk. Of the Charger of course. Weekend warrior just like the muscle car era.

                      • The 8 speed has a 4.71 first gear. The engine will rpm so fast it is almost impossible to get the 1-2 shift without hitting the rev limiter at 5800. Between this and the track being slippery and rough, the nitrous could not be used most of the time. We had to use it in small steps at specific intervals.

In the end, the trans and weight of the car made the difference (factory 8 speed compared to powerglide with a brake).

It was still a lot of fun, and I thought both cars made great runs. As a matter of fact, the final run had the 2 fastest runs of the event.
