  • Big Fubar in the Netherlands; Someone lost his job today...

    ...while a number of other folks have lost their house...

    20 people were wounded. Luckily no human casualities as of yet but one poor dog that was trapped in his bench inside one of the houses didn't survive the ordeal.
    This al happened in a local town nearby.

      What did one crane operator say to the other?

      - why did you lift?!

        Tough one to recover from. I'm no rigger but it looks to me like the whatever that was (what WAS that thing, anyhow?) was loaded on the wrong side of the barge to start with so that the operators had to attempt that cross-over maneuver. Bad plan gone wrong. Now she won't have to clean the house today (I've heard that Dutch women are VERY clean).

            The item that was lifted was the deck of a draw bridge.
            Something snapped which caused the deck to start moving in an uncontrolled way which led to the accident.

            Here's an English article and better pics about the mishap;
            Two cranes restoring a bridge in the central Dutch town of Alphen aan den Rijn collapse on to buildings, with rescuers searching for victims.

                Jeez. Maybe an interview question for the apprentice they evidently hired to be in charge of that million-dollar operation should have been, "Did you ever once try standing up in a canoe before?".

                    Thankful, no loss of life. Moving big stuff like that is always dangerous. What a mess.

                      Amazing how fast a sheet of 2" plate hits the floor when the off switch gets bumped on the magnet!
