  • Massive Squirrel Kudos!

The evil Ranchero was a no-show at the Grove today handing the Gasser A class to BS' own Squirrel, Jim Forbes if, no when he makes it back to St. Louis. In addition he is competing with a sealed hood because his straight axle and missing fenderwells give him pretty open access anyway. Not one to take the easy way he wowed the troops by removing the blower and servicing it through the closed hood. This caused Bruab to call him the smartest guy on drag week and perhaps the whole country.
My hobby is needing a hobby.

heh....fun stuff! I still have two runs to make, and another long drive, and not sure if the stopleak will do it's think on the leaking radiator.

    THanks!

Anybody who builds underwater robots that end up in a movie is bound to be smart beyond all regular definitions of smart. And rules are rules, and by that description he didn't break them. Kinda like Junior Johnson on steroids sort of smart. YAY Jim!

The sealed hood, is it meant to say "no work on the motor" or just to be a pain is the ass to the entrant in keeping the car going?

And well done, hope the next two days go as good.

I don't really know the intent. I only know what the rule says.

I'm sure the rule wasn't meant to keep you from fixing what's broke if you can get to it without opening the hood. Just because you have less in the way than others is a benefit, not cheating, imo. It's not like you removed the doghouse to keep from opening the hood.

Keith is one of my most favorite people on this earth. Just from being at the ETCA events and seeing him work and being able to talk with him a time or two. The last time I was at Ohio, Keith's speech to the crowd of drivers...you KNOW he's going to make a speech, he said, in effect, sort of, to paraphrase....we're not locking gas caps in the Gas class, and you tighten your own seatbelts before the run. And here's where I REALLY paraphrase and interpret, If you cheat it's up to you to live with it.

I love that. In the spirit of all the rules. Squirrell didn't cheat, and I love that, too.

I hope this isn't a derail (this is about Jim, after all) but years ago at Maxton Keith said "If you can get up in the morning and look yourself in the mirror knowing you've cheated to get whatever record you now hold - what kind of man ARE you?" Not the kind Jim or I want to be. I carry that with me.
