  • Junkyard wars candidates for 500.00 Alex

I decided to stop trashing BBR's thread with the OH OH OH crap I find on Craigslist for less than 500.00
    http://waco.craigslist.org/pts/5327473478.html 351 Windsor engine - $200 (lorena)

    1997 mustang - $300 (Eddy)

Not sure what it would take to get the automatic to work. Maybe trade the "Desirable" 4R70w for a C4 and go!

Not to leave the Chevy contingency out...

    Chevy 350 engine and th350 transmission - $100 (N Arlington)

    yes - 100 dollars.

    1966 Olds delta 88 - $350 (Argyle)

it'd be tight to get it running for a legit 500.00 ... but... maybe.

Sad thing is, it'd probably be lighter than this! The Supra's had either 3.73 or 4.10's though if i remember right.

    http://dallas.craigslist.org/dal/cto/5364929518.html 1984 Toyota Celica Supra Shell - $400

That may be a 4 bolt block up there based on the casting numbers.

No? What about this heap for 200.00 from Houston... you could finish off the 350 AND get a 100 turbo .. 3.91 rear gear:

stocker cam and a turbo for a muffler, nobody would see that coming.

The 3.8 and 351 share the same bell housing bolt pattern so with the right flex plate it should bolt up. Not sure what it would take to get it to shift.

Bonus - The V6 converter will actually have a bit of stall behind a 351. Either a microsquirt or a full manual valve body would fix it. I'd probably just trade it for a C4, crap cars like this don't need an OD and I wouldn't worry about it ever seeing the street again. I wouldn't have a personal issue with a trade for a C4 but I might (WOULD) feel guilty about dropping a couple hundred on a transmission solution and not admitting it.

Hell, I'd seriously consider the 350 / 350 Chevy for the Mustang but I'll admit to looking at the Nissan for 200.00 with the 100.00 Chevy deal - tons of wiggle room in the budget there! For that matter, the 200.00 Nissan really needs nitrous on it's six cylinder, and a diaper!

I looked for the helluvit and I'm not real sure you couldn't control the trans with a couple of toggle switches for the solenoids and another for the TCC

Easier answer is probably that the car still has the computer, so you'd could to pick up a signal for RPM, TPS, and ECT for the computer and I bet it would work like normal.

I was worried about was the line pressure and the EPC (pressure control) which is a PWM driven solenoid as I understand it. What I found from reading is that without voltage applied, it's 100% line pressure all the time. Excellent - just right for a drag car. Two toggle switches, maybe 3 would do it. I'd be curious to see if converter lockup in 3rd would buy anything besides potentially broken parts. The trick there would be teaching the 3 other drivers how to use the switches or not forgetting myself!

I saw a video of a guy shifting an auto with house light switches. Throwing the lock up on in third would be like dumping the clutch in 4th on a manual. Spin, bog or break? Weather or not it's faster I think it would have to depend on if it was blowing through the converter, or if it liked the torque multiplication. They say turbos like lock up not sure I have heard the same about superchargers or N/A

With 4.10's, a 27" tire, and a low RPM 351 (no budget for cam) lockup may be worth something. Hard to say unless it got done.

I do have a mystery 302 cam laying around that has value of exactly nothing. Ever tried to sell a used hydraulic flat tappet with unknown specs? All I know is it's bigger than stock unless it eats a lobe. LMAO.

I'm liking that 351 because it looks like it's already got a Holley 4bbl on it. I'm liking the 350/350 because it's got a trans and it's 100.00 cheaper. That manifold looks from a distance like a Performer 2101. Pretty sure I can find a quadrajet for not a lot of bucks. With those super shops Erson valve covers, I bet it already has an RV cam in it. One or two of the bores is probably rusty, but a bottle hone and scotch briting the rings doesn't cost anything.

The whole point is to build a dirt cheap beater and have some fun with it. I'm all about dirt cheap - that's the way I was raised. At this point in the game, my time is cheap, it's the parts that cost money. I enjoy working on crap cans, it doesn't matter if they are perfect. Ever used a cardboard container like a 12 pack for a gasket? What about head gaskets that came off in one piece? LMAO... Copper Paint!!

Belt sander and glass table with sand paper head surfacing, home porting, dragging crap out of the scrap metal bucket to get used one more time - my cup of tea.

SBG - I'm entertaining the idea... but if I was REALLY serious, I wouldn't be posting up these jewels until they were on my trailer.

I'm looking very hard at the Lincoln in the yard... it fits the spirit of the games. I will email them and ask, because I've long ago lost the paperwork, but it was a 400.00 Craigslist special I couldn't live without. I wouldn't be crushed if it got claimed.

Maybe I would. I'm a little attached to it or it would have been crushed years ago.

I know the felling of getting a POS to run. When the Capri went 106 in the Mile for less them 500 total I was stoked! Now is the mustang running yet?

If they claim it, you have the option of of refusing and taking a 1 year ban from JYW. We're willing to take the ban to not lose the car!
