  • On The Hunt For A GMPP LS6 CNC Ported Cylinder Head

Here's the deal I got a good deal on a Chevrolet Performance(GMPP) CNC LS6 Cylinder head(only one), part number 88958622, these heads had 250cc intake runners and 61.9 cc chambers. GM discontinued these heads a while back and they have become very hard to find, even though places do show them for sale on the internet, when it comes down to it, they don't have them. So I'm on the hunt for a New or Used head, so if anyone has one or can lead me in the right direction I would appreciate it. Here's to looking for a needle in a hay stack....

    that is painful.

I saw 980 and 1221 bucks.. and not in stock.

I took in a whole engine via part number.. extremely rare subaru motor.

the heads ended up being one of a kind.. sodium exhaust valve, a special lining to increase boost.
    same price, last found.. $950
the real rally ngine, dual port.. seems simple today. they all get that.

anyway, got the whole engine for 750.

you may be better off going to a dumb parts piler... get a whole car or engine.
I was one that rummaged through a dumpster looking for a "magic" gm v8 cyl head.

    not worth it.

I'm sure there's one out there somewhere, worst case scenario, I get another 243 LS head and have someone copy the cnc job of the head I got onto it, though not sure if that is even possible. I wonder who ported these heads for GM??

Sell the one you have to someone else, and buy a pair of heads?

According to Pace Performance port work was done by Lingenfelter. Wonder if I can send them a 243 head and have have them port it, I'm sure they still have the program. What do you think?

maybe you can find an Escalade head? I don't really remember but I thought the L92 head was close. CNC in itself doesn't make more power, it just makes it easier to reproduce consistently. You could have it digitized and copied, but you could buy another set of heads cheaper.

A competent porter can parrot the head you have. Hell, YOU can parrot it, just measure the hell out of everything and do it slowly and methodically. A Dremel is a ton more forgiving than a full on grinder and the much slower material removal will be in your favor.

Hit up Nick Smithberg on Facebook - I know he can do it.

Ya I have some options, problem with doing it myself is stock LS6 heads come with 210cc intake runners, where these heads have 250cc intake runners, that's a lot of material to take out..... Basically any 243 casting should work, and those came on the LS6's and on a ton of 5.3's in the trucks, so sourcing a head to be ported won't be a problem. Lingenfelter has a LS6/LS2 head on their website, but don't show any specs on it. So I"m just going to call them and see what they can do for me.

                a) Not really. Just has to come out of the right places.

                b) not a bad idea...

Don't sell yourself short. 10.00 HF measuring kit and a dremel - you have the model to , well, model.

I little update on this, after spending the last few weeks scouring the internet and hawking Ebay for a matching head, today I finally found one. I found a listing on Google that I hadn't called before, so I figured what the hell, everyone else has told me they don't have it, these guys might as well to. Which is exactly what happened, even though their listing said it was available they didn't have it. But this time the guy was cool and said he could do a nationwide search, and low and behold, he found the last one in the country at a dealership in Ohio, I gave them a call and they had it in stock and it's now on it's way to my house. Today is a good day indeed!!!.....
