  • '72 Cutlass, what color should it be?

A friend of mine painted this car in '78 or '79 for the original owner, and he brought it to him to have it painted again. He would like to change the color, but doesn't know what he wants. The interior is black, so anything goes. What do you guys think? I'd like to see it dark blue or burgundy.

I'm also trying to suggest new wheels for it, those hubcaps have to go! How about the Olds S/S wheels?

Maybe we can pick the color, and I'll show you guys pics when it's done.

Pink (just kidding). It looks pretty straight and black is hard to beat. I tend to two-tone stuff so I'd like dark blue up to the accent line and silver on top, but that's just me.

Burgundy would look good and with black interior and ragtop, like you said, anything goes.
Geez, what color trips his trigger ?
Doesn't this guy know what his favorite color is ?
.. and I agree that the Olds S/S wheels would look much better than those hub caps.
I think a Teal or Aqua would look bitchin', because they aren't that common.

I'd have to paint it black, and as far as wheels, probably polished Centerline Auto drags or American Racing Vectors.
Just groovin' to my own tune.

Dang it, I missed the whole car scene throughout the entire 90's, while I was in Australia SCUBA Diving and riding the outback on my Harley !!
              Shoot dang it ...

Those cars look good in so many colors.
I think white would look great on that car.
Black or a new coat of that blue would look very nice too.

I've been partial to this color for the past few years...

I think the name of the color is "Redfire Metallic".

I think it would look good on that Cutlass.

Yep, it was. A great 15-year vacation !!
Your picture (with your daughter in your signature line) looks alot like one of my SCUBA Instructor's, Warren Wilson.
He was a Captain in the Australian Army and was very strict, but an excellent instructor.

I'd go with a charcoal gray with a set of widened black steel wheels and just a bit of lowering.

Re: '72 Cutlass, what color should it be?

I'm a low maintenance guy - I will never own another black car - just too much work to keep it looking nice.

I think it would look good in just about any color - but more likely it would look totally wicked awesome in a nice metallic in the medium shades - that redfire on the mustang is great, a dark copper color would be very nice as well, and a silver with some charcoal would be more understated and great with black wheels and top.

I'd stay away from black, white, and pale colors, like the yellow that some of those cars came from the factory with.
There's always something new to learn.
