Considered a Moser 12 bolt? Probably cheaper, but definitely lighter and more efficient.

how much are the moser 12 bolts? the 9-inch was gonna go into an 82 fairmont. i'd be paying $400 for all this stuff http://maine.craigslist.org/cto/1117224645.html

Control arm, shock and coil mounts would need to be fabbed up I believe.

            I paid over $2-K for a 'Bolt-In' 9in. for my 87 Camaro. I still wonder why I did it ;D. ~J/W-OO6.

$400 for a 9-inch and an 82 fairmont drag car roller are starting to look pretty good about now :D

I would run an 8.8 ford rear in the fairmont

I'd ask a few questions first.

                  1. How wide is the housing flange to flange, if it's too wide for your Monty you'll have to have it cut down which
                  means new axles, more $$$

                  2. It' will probably need new brackets welded on to mate to your suspension.

                  3. What about the diff? If it's a stock, open 3:00 to 1 or something you'll be buying a new one including ring, pinion
and set up. My Currie 3.25 traction lock was $825 out the door.

9 inchers are still fairly common, I'd definately shop around.
Just groovin' to my own tune.

uh huh. lol. Get enough engine to bust it first, then worry about it. grin.

8.8 from an Explorer will get you 3.55, 3.73, or 4.10's and discs for cheap... and put up with a lot.
i know i wont be breaking it with the engine in it now (especially since im just going to be running street tires) but this summer i hope to have something with over 400hp in it and i dont think the 7.5 will hold up when the next engine is put in.

now that you say it i remember one of those shows on power block getting a rear end from an explorer and that sounds like a good idea.

BTW how much hp/tq can a stock 7.5 take?
