I was splicing wires for the back up camera today and found that the wires for the BU lamp are those darn lacquer coated wires. If you haven't run across this, the individual strands are coated in some sort of coating (someone years back told me it was lacquer) and even following vigorous scraping to reveal as much copper colored wire as possible they're still a bugger to solder. This is the second time I've come across this, the first time being in my MGB many moons ago.
Anyhow, is there a spiffy trick to clean the wires prior to soldering so you don't have to fight to get a solder joint? Maybe soak the wire in lacquer thinner or something? I didn't think to try that one 'till I was done but maybe?
