  • Friggin..........hate...........deer..........saving the 2005 Dodge Magnum

Got me a big buck last evening on the way home from work. #260 8-point

Oh, and loving that daylight time change deal right now as well.

    Grrr.

Feel bad for the lady minding her own business inside her house. Kamakaze deer ran across road after bouncing off my car, ran into her HOUSE, messed up the siding somewhat and bloodstained it. Officer friendly shot it 6 times in 5 minute intervals with his service pistol and gave up. Officer friendly #2 put it down with a slug from his shotgun.

On the bright side, airbags didn't deploy (caught kamakaze deer in mid-jump so hit was above sensors)

Both fenders seem untouched, door gaps are still good. Windshield not cracked, car still runs though it dumped all the coolant instantly (only drove/coasted 50 yards to a side road and shut it down quick before calling the boys-in-blue)

Core support is trashed. Plastic everywhere.

Ruptured deer pretty bad. Car smells like urine up front and there is deer-poo on drivers fender. Tow driver wanted it pretty bad so we worked a deal. I'm not interested in deer meat that I didn't field-clean myself, and this one was all messy inside.

      wow.....bummer.

On a positive note, it's a late model car, my luck I would have been driving something old and ruined parts you can't replace easily.

you even tenderized him. Though... how is it possible that the cop couldn't kill the deer with his service pistol? a shot to the heart and it's done - unless they use bb guns?

2005 Dodge Magnum SXT. 114,000 miles loaded 11 years old, still books for $7000

I love this car, wouldn't care so much if I could buy a new station wagon (and a "cross-over" is NOT a station wagon) but although these were an instant classic they dropped them after a few years of production.

Chargers, 300's, Challengers all same platform. Some of the front clips supposedly interchange between models.

I prowled craigslist late last night, found a few potential donors in the $1000-2000 range.

Forewarned is forearmed. Now just wait for the insurance adjuster to come calling.

won't say outloud that it's really no loss, it's a mopar.

I joke but I'm also quite glad you're okay.... so, have you started looking at CTS-V wagons yet?

Officer admitted he wasn't a deer guy. Maybe he was shooting it in the tail? It was a huge deer but the heart is still vulnerable no matter the size.

CTS-V you say? Just went looking......

              Oooooo, nice, very nice.

I was really planning on getting a few more years from the Magnum. Oldest boy is 14 in a couple of months, a 13 year old station wagon that I know the whole history of would be quite nice.

So what do those CTS-V go for?

YIKES!! $40,000-$50,000 for a 4 year old car? Thinking not.......

It all depends on the ammo... I shot a 6-800# steer with a growth on his back the size of a football. 38 shots.. 357 Mag Police Special.. Damn thing charged me whhile I fired 6 shots into it's head... Eyeball swinging, loping wham, I fly.. 38th shot had a louder bang and it dropped.. Had nightmares for a week!
Few weeks later the butcher came for our annual slaughter.. Used 22 rimfire mag.. RIFLE....
                Pistols are good for noise!

the CTS wagon is a good one for those who actually have a budget - 300 hp, you can get a manual transmission....

the cop didn't know where the heart was? sigh.

Watched a overhaul'n show where they put a different nose on a magnum and another mopar. Both wanted a different front to be different . Seems as though it was a early FIA charger . I'll see if I can nail this down .

I nailed one last year doing 50 mph in my little 2000 Escort ZX2. It was a twisty 2 lane local road. That sucker jumped off the embankment right in front of me. I think the only thing that saved me was the wedge shape of the front end sent him flying. It sucks, you'll have a "incident" on your insurance more then likely but the main thing is you're not injured.

Broke the radiator, bent the radiator support, broke the front fascia support, bunch of light. No where near what happened to you

I got a deer with my Jetta a couple years ago - stupid thing set off the side-airbags with its last kick.
