  • Say Goodbye to the Good Old American V8

You can only thank our government and their new MPG guidelines.

    Here's the story.

I definitely think that there will be less produced, but thinking back how many cars rolled out in 1969 with a big-block compared to an I6?

“But now people don’t really care if the performance is there.”
The average commuter never cared what's making that purring noise under the hood.
Nowadays they just think more with their wallet.
Car-junkies will always want some kind of Performance in their cars imo.

Yup as long as it runs on some kind of explosive fuel the junkies will be around. 4,6,8 cylinders who cares they can all be modded and thats the true junkie part.

bottom line is you will always be able to get the big v8 for your muscle car but as far as the new cars go they may ba fased out as a stock option but you know they will have it as an upgrade.

We have to remember that CAFE stands for Corporate AVERAGE fuel economy
today it 24 MPG . I was looking at a new Impala SS and that car got around 19 MPG on average. The new 4.5 diesel from GM will defianatly raise that average for GM and other motors from other MFG's will do the same. So it dosent definatly mean no V8's just less. You guys older than me i'm sure remember in the late 70's the junk that was available, I bet you never thought in a million years you would be able to buy a new Vette with 500 horses and soon one with 600 and all the other neat more affordable stuff available today. Technology catches up and today does so faster than ever.

we were at a light the other day, and I seen this really pretty car, it really stood out, I said, "man that car is sharp" What kind is it, being my husband works at G.M. I figured he would know, he didnt, we got a little closer to the car, and it was one of the new Impalla's G.M. just started selling, I think that car is going to sell real good.....it caught my eye, and I am real picky ;D Now I wish I had waited before I bought my Buick....

who needs a v8 when an Ecotec stock block and crank can support 1000+ HP? don't be sad that the carburetor has no future, the OEM's are doing more now than ever to build "extra capabilities" into their powerplants. You cannot argue that the Ecotec, and Vortec I5 and I6 are some of the most capable stock powerplants ever made. When was the last time someone took a stock GM 350 and made 4+ hp per cube??

The ecotek is a cool design, but I just don't care for any of the cars it's offered in.

That's why God invented the engine swap, and the Hot Rodder. Have at it!
