  • How Do You Kill Petunias?

Time to put a little color in front of the house so I zipped down to our friendly local ACE hardware and the trusted guy there pointed me to the petunias as they'll be in full sun and he said these are just the right thing. I warned him that ME and I are NOT great gardeners and I've been known to kill anything except crabgrass and kudzu. He assured me that even I can't kill petunias.

So - how do you kill petunias? I did bury them up to the top of their little rootballs and I'll give them a drink when I think of it. But other than that what should I ignore to send 'em to Davey Joneses' locker?

Here ya go, Dan. 1 part water, 1 part vinegar, and 1 part dishwashing soap. It will be nightie-night for the petunias.

I was actually thinking of how you can kill 'em with neglect. I mean, I'll be OK if they survive but that is not consistent with my track record.

You can over water them. Only water about every 2-3 days until it gets hotter than blue blazes then daily. Give the soil a chance to dry out

Not saltwater.......you'll kill the soil. Stude's recipe will work. If all else fails, dig 'em up.

If you use weed killer on your lawn to spot spray (2-4-D) be careful of the overspray (even in a light wind) near them. Ask my mother-in-law about it. I got a little over-zealous killing dandelions on her lwan - no more petunias to mow around. It's death for tomato plants too.
