THAT was fun. I wonder what she'd do in five miles? At what point does horsepower meet up with wind resistance? There's got to be a specific point, based on horsepower and weight and the shape of the car. That's what the smart fast rich guys have already figured out a long time ago.

You will know when you are ready to retire & it sounds like you already know. The best advice that I can give anyone heading towards retirement is to have your house paid for. For anyone that doubts that, consider life without the house payment. That much more money in your pocket every month. You will need it. Property taxes & insurance will still be there to pay. It used to be that people chased down retirees for good part time jobs. These days you are lucky to get an interview. A friend of mine is the CEO of a large local company. He told me that the people running their personnel department (twenty/thirty-somethings) were taught in college to hire the youngest applicants possible. The professors actually believe that all people usually keep the same job for life.

I've read it a few times over on the LS boards that all you need to go 200mph in the mile is about 700hp.

Well.....that's all well and good. If from a working man's viewpoint that 700 hp represents about 7 milk crates full of cash. I've got to say, I took the low road, the one-nutted hairless candyass approach to it, just go to Ohio and run what ya brung. A stock car (two of them on three occasions), mash the gas and let 'er go. Yep, that was heaps of fun.

I can for sure see the allure of land speed. I liked it a lot, I for sure enjoyed sitting in Dan Stokes' Truck on a cold and rainy day just yakking, making ourselves even better friends, waiting on the rain to go away so we could all run.

After more experimentation Down South, I quickly found that autocross is not the thing for me and my car. Wrong car, wrong driver even if it WAS the correct car. Wrong driver. and the car doesn't like it either. We SUCK at autocross.

Road course. Yep. There it is. A passion, just like other folks have other passions. That one's mine. It ain't cheap, getting to it, and it ain't cheap getting the car prepared for it. Road course. Not very popular here on BS, it ain't straight line stuff, but that's my thing. Hi, I'm peewee and I LOVE a road course. I even love getting PASSED on a road course. Just sayin. Just BEING on a road course.

Wrong! Although I drag raced and love straight line why do you think I have a Corvette and this 11 SS Camaro? I like curves! Even the highway kind!! I really enjoy running those mountian roads up at Gearhead which is why I'm gonna drop about $2/2500 on new suspension on the SS and why I want to go from mountian roads to road course! Just have to figure out family life and road course time, it'll happen just not yet sure when.

I wanted to be a race car driver when I was a kid, Daddy just laughed about that, a kid's dream. Daddy was and will always be my hero for a lot of reasons, like all Daddys are. But he didn't "get" that part of what I was saying when I was a little kid, I was as serious as a little kid can get. I want to be a race car driver. I'm sure he had more things on his mind other than me wanting to be a race car driver back then. I was just a little kid, another one of his problems I'm sure.

Racing through the the trioval at Daytona, I was thinking about that. I was sorta thinking about that while more so trying to steer the car. I'm pretty sure I was also thinking up toward heaven, "Hey Daddy, look at THIS." It took a lot of years to get there. A victory in itself. I did it without his help, and I'll bet he'd be pretty proud of me doing that without him. Or maybe he'd stop laughing at me about that "wish" at least. How do you know what a kid really means? My take is you'd better listen, if you have kids. What you as parents might think is little stuff might mean a lot.

I would like to do a road course, but I can't seem to get my head or pocket book around it. One of the reasons I like drag racing I can find an open track most weekends about an hour away and it only cost about $25 plus gas.
