Got Wildlife ?

[Monster]

As mankind propagates the species across the planet, and more and more of them seem to be assholes (with the exception of the members here of course), I find myself more at home with the critters of the wild. We host a Gopher Tortoise on our property, with many more in the woods behind our place and neighbors fields too.
We also have a big female Black Bear with two cubs in the vicinity, but I have not managed a picture yet.

Anybody else have wildlife on their property ?

I like and respect wildlife - as long as they stay out there and we stay in here, as Nature intended. The stud Tortoise seems like a handsome fellow - hope he treats your babe tortoise properly (you know, flowers and candy, that sort of thing).

almost every living creature makes my backyard home the deer run in packs and any morning i can bag any size buck or doe i want w/o even putting on any clothes.

Other than the couple dozen gophers squatting in my backyard we got some field mice, moles, all kinds of spiders, deer occasionally wander through, I hear coyotes at least a couple nights a week (one of them left a present in my front yard, found it mowing :P ) Canadian geese by the hundreds in the fields around the house while they migrate, a few sand cranes, redwing blackbirds, and a BIGASS redtail hawk that cruises the area regularly. Most don't live on our property, but we are within 1/2 mile of a wetlands wildlife preserve.

Lots of deer. I find their tracks all year round. Wild turkey now and then. Blue and Grey Herring fly by once and a while. And like Steve there are bear around as well. With all that plus the wild birds, I have never seen a squirrel aournd here in the three years we've been here.

We're supposed to have several kinds of poisonous snakes around here but I've only seen one cottonmouth since we moved here, and it was DEAD. Occasional squirrels but the neighbor's cats seem to keep 'em away. Down at the Battleship there's a 'Gator (George) but not near the house - that we know of.

i live in the woods in maine. there is PLENTY of wildlife here. i've even seen a bear and a moose in front of my house.

I live in a suburb of DC but we have lots of foxes. And an owl the other night. Loud one! I've spotted a bald eagle at a local playground too.

I live in the middle of St Paul, MN
Have was conceived in the house that I now live in.
We are right next to the Como Park Zoo.

So I have:
Wolves
Polar Bears
Black Bears
Brown Bears
Orangutans
Gorillas
Spiders Monkeys
Seals
Giraffes
Gazelles
Penguins
Lions
Tigers
Cougars
Kudus
Cranes
Storks
Flamingos
Ducks
Snow Leopards
Bison
Sheep
Reindeer
Lemurs
Tamarins
Sloths
and others that I can't recall right now.

When my daughter was 1-1/2 or so, (she was conceived in this house too) she used to howl back to the wolves.

John, glad to hear she was not conceived at the zoo. You'd be put on some sort of list if that were the case.

I have heard that there are rattle snakes around, but haven't seen one. I sort of ignore the tall tales of my neighbor who has lived around here for about 60 years. He said the rattlers used to be around here a lot. I just try to ignore the possibility and step on rather than over logs and stuff.

Dan don't be so sure those gators aren't closer than the battleship. They pull 'em out of lakes and swamps around here once and awhile. Also found in the intercoastal waterway and much of the Cape Fear River down your way.
