This has been the hot topic up here for the past week or so. I received this e mail today from SEMA
For those of you who have not written your MPP's please do so
This will also affect racers in the northern states who come up to some Cdn tracks to race
In Ontario, both Grand Bend and Cayuga will be drastically affected, GBM says they will have to shut down due to the loss of Pro Mods, Pro Stockers all Super Stock cars plus the IHRA national events
Without race tracks, there will be street racing problems. If this goes through in Canada, the tree huggers in the US will be after your country to follow suit
thanks

Environment Canada Threatens Leaded Fuel Ban on
Competition Motor Vehicles
Regulation Could Lead to Curtailment of Drag Racing Events
The Department of the Environment has issued a proposal to terminate the current exemption from environmental restrictions for leaded gasoline used in competition motor vehicles. If approved, the regulation would require a ban on vehicles using leaded fuel by Jan. 1, 2009 resulting in the likely demise of all international drag racing competition in Canada.
We Urge You to Contact Environment Canada Immediately (Contact Information Below) to Voice Your Opposition to the Ban
Environment Canada relies on no scientifically documented test data that provides evidence that increased exposure to emissions created from leaded gasoline causes adverse health effects. In fact, there is no evidence that racing competitions result in increased exposure at all.
Competition motor vehicles use only 1.5% of all leaded gasoline consumed in Canada. The aviation industry, which owns a permanent exemption from the ban, accounts for the other 98.5%.
The U.S., U.K. and Australia have not seen the need to enact a similar ban. U.S. race teams, which constitute a significant majority of drag racers that compete in Canada, will not convert their vehicles to compete in Canadian events.
According to data compiled by the International Hot Rod Association, drag racing competitions and related expenditures by race teams, event organizers and tourists among others brings with it a multi-million dollar windfall for regions hosting these events.
Contact the Department of the Environment to voice your opposition to this proposed regulation. These comments are due before Feb. 13, 2008.
Also, please contact your Members of Parliament and ask that they oppose this ban as well. To identify your Members of Parliament, go to: http://canada.gc.ca/directories-repe...ct-eng.html#mp. Comments in opposition to the proposed ban on leaded fuel used in competition racing should be directed to:
Chief, Fuels Section
Oil, Gas and Alternative Energy Division
Energy and Transportation Directorate
Department of the Environment
Ottawa, Ontario K1A 0H3
All comments must cite the Canada Gazette, Part I, and the date of publication of the “Gasoline Regulations – Competition Vehicle Exemption” notice issued by the Department (Dec. 22, 2007).
Please e-mail a copy of your message to Steve McDonald at [email protected]
Thank you.
