Yep I think it is just a case of us and them. So if your ever here call it a Turbo 700 and we'll all know your talking about the overdrive hydraulic GM transmission.
But if your talking the electronic one call it a 4L60E and we'll know what your talking about because that's what we call them!
When GM went to 4 speed automatics, they changed the name... then had to change them again when they put 4 speed automatics in FWD....700r4 was the initial designation but when they made them for FWD the trans became a 4T60e and a 4L60e for rwd or awd (and the larger number meant more capacity). remember, Wiki isn't GM's answer but a nerd in a basement's answer..... with that said, I had to send a GM advertisement to my dad before he admitted the 200r4 is the correct nomenclature.... parents, you just can't stop training themDoing it all wrong since 1966

I wonder if Al knows that you have to change steering knuckle arms when you go from strong arm steering to power steer on those Holdens. If they are not changed the front ends are twitchy as anything as the power ones are shorter than the non power ones.Tim
