    Doesn’t appear there’s many USAF on here but glad to see guys are proud of their branch.
    AF from 1965-1988 as aircraft mechanic as crew chief and heavy maintenance on F-4C,D,E,RF-4C
    F-101A,RF,B-66,B-57,F-105,T-38,and T-37. Been to Vietnam,Thailand,Italy,Phillipines,Taiwan,England,
    and of course state side. If had to do over only thing I’d change is getting rid of 1st wife sooner. Finally retired
    from working on airplanes here at Whiteman AFB in 2012, now I’m enjoying my cars and life. Hope to maybe meet some of you guys and talk about that great airplane F-4.

      Sounds good to me .. why don't you start a thread about the McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II ?

        that is a very busy time.
        still a big historic reference.

        I was lucky to see one takeoff in 1992, it was going off to some pedestal.
        balls to the wall, sloppy afterburner bending on the ramp...330am.

        I learned to call them lead sleds. 101 and f4. The glide slope is steep.

                  True! Even Lt. Dan called them "fast movers". Now if I just had a $1 for every one that I did a quick check/end of runway on.

                    It's interesting how things work out. I had originally tested for the Air Force and had gone to Dallas in October 1976 (I was a HS Senior at the time) to complete my paperwork for the Air Force when I ran into a Marine Recruiter who was very good at what he did. Long story short, I left Dallas being sworn in to inactive reserves in the Marines and went active for 4 years started July 1976 after I graduated. The rest they say, is history. I was able to keep the same job rating in the aviation side of the Marines as I would have in the Air Force. My whole 4 years was being assigned to F-4 Squadrons. I really enjoyed my time in and the opportunity to work on Phantoms. They were truly the "work horses" of their time. I still have many scars on my back and hands from crawling around under them and hitting the flaps and from packing drag chutes. I think I still have orange and red in my system from all the hydraulic fluid and engine oil I soaked myself with over the years. Nothing like standing next to the runway at night when those Bad Boys kicked in their afterburners for takeoff!

                        What kind of aircraft did you fly, I remember pulling da buckets for INS troops. Those were the days when you could do so much not specialized like they are today. Thanks for being a part of our military.

                            Flew F-16s, blk 25, 30, 40, and a small amount of time in the blk 50. Exchange tour with the Navy for 3 years in Pensacola flying T-34s. Was an Egress Tech on F-4s, and F-16s.

                                Was a crew chief in PI on F-4 and helped do heavy maintenance and help out the specialist,weapons and AR. Like I said back in the day we were able to do many things as long as they taught you. Don't remember how many I taxied to burn in the brakes, taxi way at Clark AB was long one till you crossed over to trim pad.
