You guys are the greatest and most experienced sounding board in the world, and a vast army of enablers, so I'm cashing in - asking a technical knowledge favor.
And go ahead and laugh - Bluebelle the Fusion. 2012 3.0L six cylinder. All I want or need is for her to go just a few MPH faster at the Arkansas Mile to get even more giggles and fun. All it took was a hotrod tune to get her to 131.9 MPH. Huge fun, laughing all the way.
I've spent next to zero time underneath the car, it's Unit's virtually new grocery getter. So I'm thinking CAI and Magnaflow exhaust to pep her up some more while rowing gears down the air strip (she's got a manual shift button on the 6-speed automatic).
To complete the story about how ignorant I am, today I went surfing for exhaust systems for Bluebelle. I had no idea - it's not even a true dual exhaust. It's got a single pipe all the way from the cat back to the rear, and there it splits into two mufflers. What a ruse. I actually just "thought" it was twin exhaust the whole time, with two holes coming out of the rear. Nope.
Magnaflow is quality stuff, stainless and mandrel bent, a great exhaust system. But in this replacement application, I don't think that will yield much performance, maybe some sound. I'm thinking CAI and leave the exhaust alone. I'm thinking that because the MF package costs a LOT. It's not cheap by anybody's imagination.
I'm glad I got Magnaflow exhaust for Red. I didn't know until I was cutting those stock pipes off of there just how bad they were, the part where they passed over the rear axle. Those factory stock pipes looked like somebody had bent them over their knee, just about mashed flat. And for sure the MF system was needed later to optimize the blower's output.
The Fusion's pipe run is a straight line, independent rear suspension. I just can't justify replacing that exhaust system for big bucks to get an unknown few MPH on a single day of fun. Not for the money, and that's a LOT of money just for that.
I''m sure you guys have a lot more knowledge and experience in such things, I'm sure you do.
