They like to scuttle ships to replace the coral reefs as a wildlife habitat. The reefs are shrinking due to oceanic warming (avoiding THAT topic).

I think that film happened in the 60s.... what I liked was they put the dynamite in 50 gallon barrels, then wrapped the ship with a bunch of those barrels connected by the detonation cord..... safety 3rd!
