Right about now it is a struggle for me to be here, but it would also be a struggle for me to get out, so here I am.

New York State is doing the stupid stuff Cali is, but Florida seems scary stoopid in the same way some Cali folks can be.

My family is in Florida, it's WEIRD. Legal to turn without signaling. Actually made a law allowing that. Arizona get's weird, but nobody notices. Weird on a small manageable scale. But Cali? We're bigger than England now. Fifth largest economy in the world. Interesting Governor race coming up. LA guy vs. Rest Of the State Guy. Latino guy vs. Marin County guy. Of course THAT is just the Democratic Nomination. Then it will be pretty much over with.

It's a struggle for me too. I grew up here but now it's SO crowded I wonder if it's worth it. All around me they're tearing down commercial property to build high-density housing which just makes the traffic worse. I drive a truck for a living and with a 3 pm start time, I sit in traffic going to work then climb into the truck and go sit in more traffic. I realize it's a free country and people can live wherever they want, I just wish they would go live somewhere else.
Just groovin' to my own tune.

I did! I am a SoCal native - born and raised but have left the zoo on a number of occasions for other compromises.
I now reside in Florida where we only have an influx of crowds/traffic for 6 months out of the year.
And while we do have our share of idiots, the summer splendor seems to make the less hardy relocate north permanently.

That's exactly my thoughts on KY. Not sure where I'd go if I could leave. With my love of curves, moving out of the most urban county might be just what I need except it's hard to hide in small towns....everybody knows who you are and what you're doing.

California is an interesting state. You do have to pick where you live and what you decide to care about. Not all but most I've known who've left just wound up back here.

I must confess I don't understand how the Cali citizens would allow the state to get in such a bad shape. Highest taxes in the land, biggest poor populations, criminal gangs and worst politicians any where. I was born in the deep south and would not leave it for any "Yankee" state, Along with California there's Illinois and NY, all three are the worst run states in America, and run by crooked Democrats, better know as Commie, socialist, anarchist SOB's. However I do believe, now more than ever, a day of reckoning is quickly approaching. The country is so divided that It can't remain as one and just as the old Soviet Union was once thought to be indestructible, it fall from within. In fact if one goes back in history you'll see every great empire has fallen, the greatest, the Roman Empire, fell from within. History teaches us many things, one is it always repeats itself. From a practical view point US could sell the left coast back to Mexico and New England to Canada and deficit problem goes away. The Old South now has all the resources it needs to be it's own country. Anyway a few thoughts from a crazy old southerner, one of my favorite saying is " born American, but southern by the grace of God". Everyone have a nice day!

Like Corvettes, I can take or leave California. I've visited a time or two and found it interesting but I was happy to head for home. We love SE NC but there are other nice places, too.

And THAT is PRECISELY why you CAN'T live here. Not allowed. We have people at the borders watching for you letting the Latinos through. You see, with everything bad and worse that has been said, nobody has blamed anything on anyone or passed any kind of judgement. Not allowed HERE. Here being this state and this forum which is of course a product of this state.

High taxes are a burden, but only on those who can and are willing to pay them. Thus instead of sucking up welfare money like MOST tax fearing, God fearing Red welfare states California has a budget SURPLUS. Our government actually MAKES MONEY and DOES THINGS.

The Old South just MIGHT have the resources it needs, but it is clutching them tightly in greed looking over it's shoulder too much to enjoy or use them.

California is BROKEN. It can't get broken any worse. It can't be fixed. But it will keep on going. It just is. If you don't like it don't look at it, but don't EVEN expect to be able to change it. It will defy you and do the opposite AND it will work out.

California IS a separate country and it is paying for that other country. Take away the Yankee part and the Left Coast Part and you'd have Pakistan left that spends a LOT of money yet doesn't DO much.

Well I'm sure like any state there are probably a few places worth living in but the state itself makes it unattractive. Me personally I wouldn't even consider visiting Cali and that's a shame, maybe if someone like Loren would guide me around maybe. I was born in the deep South, worked elsewhere when I was out of high school but came back home to live where it's nice and quiet.
