My daily/winter car is FWD, and it's a great car. It's great until you push it harder than about 70%, at which point it all falls apart. Any slip of the drive wheels means the steering may as well be disconnected, which is lovely fun in snow (I will believe until I die that in snow or loose conditions, RWD is a zillion times easier to control). It's hateful to work on (transverse engine, tiny transmission stuffed into utter inaccessability).

For any sort of performance use, RWD or AWD are comically better, and I'd rather work on those as well--assuming the engine is longitudinally mounted.

For mild, day-to-day use, the only perk to FWD that I can think of is the lack of a trans tunnel, so you've got a bit more legroom. Whee?

not all AWD are created equal. AWD that is based upon a RWD architecture is far better then FWD with a RWD afterthought (and yes, including the new Focus)

Found out yesterday on some mighty tight mountain switchback corners that Bubba the Truck is real wheel drive. Is there anything lower than lower case? rear wheel drive.

Is rear wheel drive more fun? Absolutely! Can front wheel drive perform? You had better believe me, it can and will.... do we own both? Yes... It is surely fun when the unsuspecting try to play Russian roulette with the silver bullet though....

Front-wheel-drive cars are good for going out parts-hunting for rear-wheel-drive cars...

We still love the bullet.... granted....mods have been made, and, most of the torque steer is gone.... we are now at the limits of transmission reliability, but, more mods are in the future....

I don't hate it nearly as much as I simply don't like it. That feeling through the steering wheel when you romp it WOT with the wheels turned....that is just wrong. That is just altogether reason for the world wrong. A car is meant to be pushed, not pulled. But we don't have to drive in the snow very much here so I guess I don't appreciate FWD enough.

    boxer front wheel.
    only way to go.
it is still actually rear wheel, only up front.

I stopped complaining.. even my sister drives a cop version of an explorer.
    gets up and goes.

According to Hollywood, without tuner guys we'd have no cops, robbers, soldiers or spies...

That is actually all wheel drive . I'm finding that I'm not so much of a front wheel drive hater as I am a sideways motor hater . So , I'm still on the outside with this one . Not saying it wouldn't be fun to drive . I just don't want to own or work on it . What you do in your garage ...........well let's just do the don't ask don't tell thing .
