  • Let's try THIS one again....

NHRA is getting stale. A bunch of classes running 8.2 Liter engines.

I say cut back to 5.0 like the rest of the known universe. Eliminate MOST other engine rules for a bit and sit back. Maybe a stretch of 7 Liter (430 cu in) for a bit. Back to 1320 too. Pro Stock could just go AWAY in the shuffle. When I heard the big trick in PS is massive vacuum leaks to get past throttle body size limits I puked a little anyway.

    Cue the chirping crickets....

So.... is 5.0 a BAD idea? Would everyone just sleeve and de-stroke Hemis or would engines based on other designs "come around"? Lighter, tighter bore spaced Hemis or other production based? NASCAR adapted? A Blown Fuel Nascar motor? Might as well take advantage of THEIR R&D. They figured out how to bill Detroit for it..... back when NASCAR DID R&D. Maybe 5.8 liters, but I still like 5.0. Back to Trans Am at 5.0 and others at 7.0.

Pro Stock should be a production body with maybe hood and rear wheel openings being the only mod. They've gotten look like funny cars= UGLY!
Just groovin' to my own tune.

But with any kind of power they grow wings with the stock silhouette. It's SAFETY.... with a side order of cheating.

Round about 89 or 90 I saw a Gen 3 Firebird fly at Pomona. Damn cheap seats near the traps.
