  • A Serious NASCAR Issue

Hey Steve, Monster, please take a look at this and see if it's too political or something. If it is, please delete it immediately. I can't decide.

It's about human error, we all make mistakes. It only seems to me to be the nail in the coffin for NASCAR, another nail.

Brian France, the CEO of NASCAR, is taking a leave of absence from the company after he was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated in New York.

This simply proves that it takes drugs and alcohol to watch NASCAR - even their head can't survive a race without the aforementioned lubricants.

I just heard this on the news. As if NASCAR needed one more thing. Looks like there might be a used speedway glut before long. You might be able to get one cheap

I just want one for a day. Just one day. All by myself.

        EDIT: I choose Daytona.

Should've had a designated driver, he knows a few guys.... Seriously the France Family has endured some wacky news, never this blatant or serious, but still wacky. Plus drunk driving is no longer the cardinal sin it was because nobody wants to face up to inattentive driving and REAL driver's ed, testing, re-testing and re-educating. Finally DRIVING around ITSELF is on the decline. Nobody outside the hobby drives unless they HAVE to anymore.

Political? I was just thinking about talking about building the economy up on the auto industry when twice as many new cars were sold in 1970 as 2017. GROSS sales, not factoring in population growth.

And the news just had a bit on extending bar times further into the AM and the impact on DWI. It just goes on and on and matters really less and less. I need to get out of the city.

The bars stay open until 4am here. The story behind that is UPS, Ford, and to a lesser extent these days GE second shift personnel should be able to grab a couple cold ones on the way home. There was on bar located between the airport and the Ford factory that was only closed two hours a day; open from 6am to 4am. That place lost it's lot when UPS expanded its operations.

I completely agreed on inattentive driving be as bad or worse than non-sober driving. I see those folks everywhere and police are no exception.

As for a track of my own, give me a road course and I'll be happy.

Government politics is taboo, not this type of thing.

If you did´nt have to work your balls off to make/create something then the driving desire is not there to maintain or better it.

I don't see this at all. 1) any advertising helps - for 2 reasons, first because it galvanizes the faithful but second because people read this and think "oh, I should go to the races this weekend"; 2) you really think drugs and alcohol usage turns off the typical NASCAR fan?

NASCAR ain't my thing (yeah, big surprise not at all) but I think the net result will be financially beneficial.

Too bad Spider Gears Man isn't around to weigh in on this.

I suspect Big Bill would be amazed at how big and corporate the NASCAR bubble got before it popped.

But the seeds of NASCAR's many problems were sown long before Brian France took over. When NASCARs lost virtually all tie-in with what the fans in the stands could buy . . . when they required million dollar staffs of engineers and specialists to field . . . when massive transporters, massive motorhomes, corporate jets and other hyper-expensive support gear replaced "regular guy" equipment . . . when the dream of building up a single car to make the show was replaced by elite $100+ million "super teams" . . . when fan parking, food and refreshments started costing more than even the event tickets . . . . when spectacle, gimmicks and sponsors took priority over the racing . . . when parity replaced performance . . . All of that was part of how Big Bill's grassroots, accessible version of stock car racing was lost.

Odds are good that he's up on the streets of gold giving Bill an earful.

You guys are crying over spilled beer..... and blow. Hopefully one or another short track sanctioning body will start doing bigger tracks with better rules. I'm too radical. I'd want stock drivetrain and profile. Stock block turbo 4 and V6. Sane people running the show. Car businesses as sponsors. Silly things like that.

So your saying it started when the Superbird and Talladega were ruled out, right?
