  • Speed Week Never Happened!

At least, BangShift coverage of Bonneville never happened. How do I know this? I was in Impound ALL WEEK and Chad nor anyone from BangShift ever came to see me, not even once. So my only conclusion can be, THEY WEREN'T THERE! Guessing they published pics from the Internet? But I KNOW if they were there they would have come to see me. (sniff sniff, feeling slightly hurt........)

Hey, I went to Street Machine Nats/Pomona (now discontinued), won Editor's (Jeff Smith) Choice, gave remarks at the award ceremony and was in the sizzle reel and every TV commercial, and got zero pics in Bang Shift. Figured it was something I'd said...?

Guilty, I was only in the impound area late Saturday but spent a lot of time in Tech. I talked with Kiwi Steve for a while on Thursday about getting involved with Tech next year, I should have had him point you out for me. Now I feel bad.

Full disclosure - one BSer stopped by but we were in the middle of a discussion about a possible body rule violation and I needed to keep my head in that so I could learn the details and add that to my knowledge base. Sorry to that guy (I couldn't hear your name with all the background noise) - I wanted to chat but it was bad timing. Hope we can sort that out and fix it in the future.

Jason - I was in the Impound yard, right across from Tech. Hope you'll wander over next year. I'm the short old guy.

I was there. Should have drove my Roadmaster into tech to meet you but that probably wouldn't have gone over well? Will make sure to see you next year!

Would've checked in if I was there, could've caught lunch again. This time I promise to not bottom out my car on the way to and from the track!

Eleven generic reasons why most folks don't meet-n-greet their favorite California hot rodding media-type celebrity at "national events:"

                        11. Baskerville-style flip flops impair mobility.

                        10. Neutral drops in the rental car are more fun than "schmoozing" with the unwashed public.

9, They're still operating on Pacific time (not much of an excuse at B-ville . . . .)

                        8. They're too busy explaining why someone's wretched pile isn't "front page" feature material.

                        7. They're "scooping" a "hot" product placement story from an event sponsor.

                        6. They're "scoping" out a "hot" model from an event sponsor.

                        5. They're out scouting a feature car photo backdrop that doesn't suck.

                        4. Air conditioned VIP tent / control tower is where the free "adult beverages" are

                        3. Multi-media content requirement means they're busy shooting video "packages"

                        2. Budget cuts mean more "virtual" "reporting." (comes in handy for scheduling stints in rehab . . . .)

                        1. They're making another pass through the buffet line at the casino.

Nick - Sorry I was distracted. Next year, let's "do" dinner. Have your people call my people (actually, I don't have any "people"........). Anyhow, it was great to see your smilin' face and hope we can actually talk next time!

the trick to meeting up with Dan is to not have a room, and sleep on the floor in his room
