  • LeMons Rally -- Route Sucky Suck

    the route 66 run is coming up soon, the week of Halloween. We got the 40 LaSalle Hearse working ok, planning to leave Tucson, headed to Chicago, this coming Tuesday.

    should be fun. We'll see how far we get. This is my brother David, testing his new top hat and skeleton.

    His passenger is a bit THIN! Maybe needs a bit of road food - I know I always put on weight when we're traveling.

      Oh by the way. Make sure the heater is working . We in the mid west are in the 40s . The passengers will get chilled to the bone in no time !

                And a great LSR engine. XXO IIRC. A non-Ford flathead of appropriate displacement - yep, there's a class for that though the hearse body is a curse (see what I did there?).

                    A LaSalle is a Cadillac...it's the cheapest model.

                      I knew it was part of the Caddy family...
                      For some reason I was thinking it was like a Deuzzy or Cord different... But I knew it wasn't.
                      37 and 40 Buicks had the inline 8...

                        DF's humor sure can grate. It took me a while to "get it" but I do NOT like Route 66 getting called Route Sucky Suck. Kinda stuffy of me I guess....

                        I'd be good wid Route Sickety Sick. Bailey could enter and I would'nt have visions of Oral Sex in Viet Nam.

                          DF had nothing to do with setting this up...Roadkill reports on the LeMons stuff, but it's run by different people.

                            "Mavis Beacon" hairsplitting here . . . but while LaSalle was assembled and sold by the Cadillac division, technically it was a separate "companion" brand in the Alfred P. Sloan brand hierarchy concept. The idea was to have a separate brand for every price and pockebook.

                            The order of GM brands from lowest to highest during the "companion" brand era was:

                            Chevrolet;
                            Pontiac;
                            Oakland (Oakland was actually the original brand and Pontiac was the companion);
                            Oldsmobile;
                            Viking (companion to Olds);
                            Marquette (companion to Buick);
                            Buick:
                            LaSalle:, and
                            Cadillac.

                            The Great Depression mostly wrecked the "companion" brand idea. Pontiac was the only "companion" brand that GM didn't drop (that is until the this century) . Oakland was the only original GM brand that GM dropped (until the much later death of Oldsmobile)

                              more nit picking....the 1940 LaSalle Commercial chassis is a Cadillac chassis, not a LaSalle chassis...it's bigger... and this car has a slightly newer Cadillac 346 in it. so yeah, we're driving a Cadillac, for the most part.
