  • Best Tow Vehicle Ever.

If you can leave two black stripes from the exit of one corner to the braking zone of the next, you have enough horsepower. - Mark Donohue

I've towed with any number of vehicles - a '75 Toronado (worked pretty well), my '78 Fleetwood (not as good as the Toro but OK), my 318 Dakota, but NOTHING measures up to the Dodge/Cummins. Like the trailer isn't even there other than it takes a bit more pedal than usual to get the whole thing moving. That is, however, a great pic.

      I have towed this 18' trailer and car with a '98 318 Durango, a 2007 F150 Screw 4x4, and my 2011 5.7L Jeep Grand Cherokee.

The Jeep is leaps and bounds best of the 3. This thing is ridiculous. Tows like a boss. It's like towing with a sports car. Love it.

JWS4621 and I did some tow vehicle roll racing on I-40 on the way back from Noble. His '01 PSD Superduty pulling his car couldn't out run the Jeep to 95 mph. After he bumped up the tuner he could, but we were both super impressed with the Hemi.

Cool pictures! I have never towed a car trailer with a car. I have pulled it with 95 300 I6 F150, 98 Cummins, 05 Suburban, 03 2500HD 6.0 gas. Cummins was the best. Most power, and greatest load capacity. 6.0 is enough, but you can tell it's back there.

Way back in the early eighties (Aug of '81 or '82), while at the AHRA World Finals in Spokane, there was a fellow with about a '66 Belvedere, towed on an open trailer by a same year, same colour Belvedere wagon, very cool matched set, if only I actually owned a camera back then

I look forward to that transition..my first tow was a 78 delta 88 with a 301 and tow package (all gm)
I may be a dodge fan boy just for a manual transmission soon.. but I am stubborn. there is the elusive gm products. driving my 1996 little 305 past the whole generation to this day on the 5 speed. going to 400k miles, no end in sight.

I cannot tell i am towing either. Take automatic away, that dodge will idle a clutch out to start.

                Best "looking" Tow vehicle, maybe.
After towing a load that was heavier than the tow vehicle and no trailer brakes, no thanks.
One white knuckle drive was enough to learn , nope not a good idea.
Just like a 4x4 in the snow, it's being not able to stop that is the white knuckle/puckering moments.
My "enlightenment " was towing a 1981 Caprice wagon on a trailer with a 1982 s-10 with the mighty izuzu 4 banger and a stick.
                Yup, was young and dumb.
Rolling through a red light with both feet on the brake pedal and it still going , hahahaha, you want to stop, nope. was all the whiteknuckle I needed. to never, ever do that again.

Yep, trailer brakes are a good thing. I only have them on one axle and am STRONGLY considering adding another set to the other axle (no TOO hard to do).

                      Fixed for you..
1/2 ton 4X4 with ont ton springs pulling a derby car on a brakeless 3axle equipment trailer that tips the scales at 3200#. (wasn't bad, few hairy situations)
one ton with only front brakes (how I figured brakes were bad) pushed me pretty good!
I still tow with the one ton (best tow rig! Even tho 350/4 speed not as snappy and seamless as a 05 PSD) Yes I fixed the brakes!
The ones with trailer brakes are dramafree for 99% of the time
