  • Why does NHRA hate Pro Mod?

O.K. A little good, a little bad. NHRA is going to try to raise the interest level on Pro Stock Car and Bike next year with some special Fox Sports broadcasts. Why not just FACE IT and take Pro Mod to a full time Pro Category?

And the rules.... So they are winning the war on that front. PDRA dropped Extreme Pro Mod because so many teams preferred Pro Boost and Pro Nitrous with their NHRA compatible rules. But is it all over for truly unlimited Pro Mod? SCSN in Vegas is running full NHRA rules too, BUT they have a little thing called the Outlaw Shootout where they look the other way for one session Thur. night for bragging rights and the princely sum of $1,000. Result? A team dumps some ballast and cranks up a little boost to shade the class record by a TENTH AND A HALF! Remember Vegas is high altitude and the record was set at St. Louis. In other words THE RULES SUCK!

Pro Mod is BOOMING! While the other "PRO" categories suffer short entries 30 or more Pro Mods show for the 16 car fields. AND they all are crippled in the name of PARITY. Why not pick up a few pointers from the No Prep side of the tracks? The big deciding factor is not E.T., but raceability. The turbo cars are quick but inconsistent. Why not capitalize on that fact by making the class ALL RUN? RACE the field for ALL qualifying rounds. Let losers continue to make passes to compensate for lopsided pairings and divide the Sunday field BETWEEN the survivors and the quickest losers.

Then again you could ALSO liven up a N/T event the same way. ALL RUN then bring back the BEST MPHs to keep everything NO TIME.
