Oh Dan *smh* you really need to fix your cheap-car-problem
I'll take my cheap cars , you can keep yours diesels . I may not want one but I don't dis you having one . A little respect of others stuff is in order .
UK wanted to come in and smash the record, all while discouraging others from seeking LSRs in their class.... they succeeded at 50% of their goals, at least for now. Of course, there are some troglodytes who make jokes about their 'fast' surrender.
I bet the current LSR holders are happy their record is safe for now. No, wait a second, .....
Who was that old dude that said something about doing things "not because they are easy, but because they are hard; because that goal will serve to organize and measure the best of our energies and skills, because that challenge is one that we are willing to accept, one we are unwilling to postpone, and one we intend to win, and the others, too"?

The fact that they were looking for 31 million in funding. seems, nuts.
I know speed cost how fast you want to go. but that is nutso.
Did this thing ever go faster than 200mph. with the funding they already blew through.?

Probably not, if the testing was only in the UK. Watching the videos on Youtube of Thrust SSC, they used a 13.5 mile track to get a 5 ton car to go supersonic and stop afterwards.
On a 2 mile or so runway you will be pretty limited as to how fast you can go with a jet / thrust-driven car that doesn't jump off the line.
