Never saw someone that I know on there. But I have noticed how cops in different parts of the country handle perps. I always figured the OJ "low speed chase" had something to do with the guy being a celebrity. Evidently that is more of a west coast thing.

"Civilized" is debatable, but yeah. The cop shows bring that out - what's legal here ain't legal there. Remember those old protest songs? Those musician hippies were way ahead of their time. Actually the big difference between COPS and Live PD is on COPS nobody ever gets away. If they do it is edited out, the whole sequence just isn't shown. On Live PD if the trail gets cold it's like "yeaaaaah, uh, we're gonna switch to another more rapidly developing story". More and more they start with in custody, look at this guy. .
