    sigh, my high school ride

I sold the car to a dealership who thought "brown is just a darker shade of plated gold" - it sat on his lot for at least 10 years, sinking into the mud in the back lot. I could have bought it back a couple times, I didn't because I didn't like the styling or the troubles that car gave me.... and it was a bit cathartic watching it rot. I traded it for a non-running 67 Camaro that eventually I drove.
Doing it all wrong since 1966

A real good friend of mine had one similar..........I think it had a V6, ran like a scalded cat........three on the tree.

I had a '51 Ford business coupe. Had a flattie with 3 on the tree + overdrive. Loved that car.
Buddy of mine had a 50 with the 6 in it. That little engine made huge torque. He could take me in the quarter, but beyond that I could outrun him.

I had one in a pretty teal green that I bought used - I think it was a '71 but I could be off a tad. Mine must have been a slightly different model as it had high pipes. Nice little bike and I'd love to have it back today. It was NOT my first ride.

You know I'd kill for a nice one of those. I'd probably do an even-fire V6 w/T5 (or some such). I LOVED that styling.

This gets me to my HS ride. Dad wouldn't let us own a car in HS (thought it would be a ride straight to Hell and we wasn't even religious) so my brothers and I mostly drove whatever Mom's car was at the time. By the time I was in HS he was doing pretty well financially and he bought Mom a slightly used Buick Special (not Skylark) convert, black/black with a red interior. It had the odd-fire V6 & dual path 2 speed auto (NOT a Powerglide - no common parts). It was reasonably peppy and was great fun with the top down. My HS girlfriend (later wife #1) and I had a lot of fun in that car which is probably why I like them so much. I owned a rust-free '62 Skylark convert for a while but I never had a chance or the money to work on it so I let it go. It's one of the ones that got away.

Freshman year - Paid $15 for my aunt's white over pale yellow 1959 Ranch Wagon with the 352 Interceptor engine. The front fenders and rear wheel wells were rusted out like much of the body, no wheelcovers. It was ugly as sin.... But it drove well, held 15 kids, and was a lot of fun. It ran really well after rebuilding the carb.

Sophomore year - My mom's gold 1969 Falcon two door coupe with the little inline six. Top speed 70MPH. Got my first speeding ticket the day the 55MPH national speed limit went into effect. It was light, and a lot of fun to flat track on the dirt roads around town. My little brother borrowed it and totaled it in an ice storm right after I detailed the rims with red and white pinstripes.

Junior year - Someone GAVE me a white over pale green 1959 Galaxie 500 four door sedan with factory air and TILTING front bench seat. It had a hole in the soft plug behind the right motor mount. I epoxied it shut, no more leaks. No mufflers - sounded great. You could hear the pistons changing holes right before it shifted into 2nd gear at 69 MPH. Had a ball in that car. Sold it to a guy who was restoring a black one. His became the parts car. I saw mine when he was done with it - looked showroom perfect.

Senior year - Bought a turquoise blue 1964 Ford Galaxie 500 two door post coupe, 352 with a four barrel for $500l. Ran like a scalded ape. First car I ever drove over 100MPH. Did some street racing, nothing serious. It was solid and dependable. Some Mexican with no insurance T-boned it while I sat at an intersection, and it went to the salvage yard. Wish I had that one back - it was nice.

Had 68 Nova, built a 302 with M-21 Muncie, painted it 73 Corvette blue. I've posted this picture before And as noted before I still have it. The car not the girl. Click image for larger version

Given that you still have the car I think it would be fun to track down the girl and replicate the pic! See how the car - and the model - have changed.

I went to high school in VA. There you could get a motorcycle license at 15 1/2. This was my in town ride - 68 DT1 with a full GYT kit on the street. It doubled as my woods bike on the weekends.

This was my out of town ride to carry my race bike to the flat tracks and TTs that I rode back in the 60s. It had a Maverick 200CI 6 in it from the junk yard.

My senior year I had a 1970 TR6-C with a TriCor 750 kit, TT cams, 1 3/4TT pipes and a Bonneville head. That got me in a lot of trouble with the local LEO's!

This is some of them, all had road time.
my newest was the 1983 escort.

only 5 years old in 1988.
the delta88 had just turned ten, and looked as clean as the borrowed photo.
the 1979 was 9 and breaking in half (we thought it was strong for getting past 5 years from brand new... that was a "strong" truck here back then.

the only reason I veered away from trucks.
I wanted a chevy motor on the ford frame. those frames stayed so strong, kept popping the cab off in violent ways.
my ford was a 1974... cab barely mounted.

my short 30 years has the reason my 1996 gmc is my favorite of 20 something machines.
I have not had an automatic since the th350.
my gmc is a 5 speed.

I pretend not to be angry at some So Cal sandal wearing surfer dude claiming his heavy chevy story...
                          I really try.

Back in the day-we were not allowed to drive to school--no place to park--after riding the bus home I would either take out my chopped and channeled 34 Ford 3 window coupe or
my 51 Vincent Black Shadow and hang around the Hasty Tasty in Dayton OH.

big feet, big hands... I suspect that model would need a wide angle lens and bracing for the fender...
