He was aged in 1996.. flew a p51 like it was his personal toy.
he did several low flowbys at its 300mph, tipping wings, steep climbs.
amazing sound.
A rare two seater, our base commmaner wilfred hessert was in the back.
I could see him smiling from the ground (they got that close)

anyway.. I was worked very hard at the maineiacs base , I cannot remember chronology or even an entire 2 years exactly (worked all night all day).
I believe it was 1996 that he was in bangor maine.

truly incredible.
I am older air force grunt.. more likely to hang out with an SP and a pilot more than anyone else.
not the same kind of chief today for sure.

yeager started off as the humble crew chief.
ingenuity from the woods...carry a gun if need be.
my generation is the last of them.

I can only guess why I was assigned to work with him and meet him for an airshow..
I shook the hand of a real worker, looked him right in the eye.. thinking it was all hollywood at first.
a good look eye to eye. There is nothing shallow about him.

his background is truly incredible.
the real soldier..every branch has a piece of his story to admire.

After I got attacked, it was heroes like him, and some marine and army stories. I did not wallow in my own crap for long.
I hope his documentary comes through.
