  • What car would you build to piss off purists?

Saw this thing on the Bullet. Well it IS a Chevy. Can't think of anything much dorkier than a Towne Coupe. Not even a Chevette, Big Bumper Nova or Disco Nova.

I don't care what you build, it's going to piss off someone.
Doing it all wrong since 1966

1978-80 Pontiac sunbird hatchback. or Buick Skyhawk.
2018-19 Camaro turbo4 and manual transmission.
Monza widebody flares, that the race car had.
      c4 subspension bits.
piss off a bunch of Camaro/mustang/vette owners with an unloved, car that handle and go like stink.
make g.m. wonder if the next Camaro should be the 75-80 Monza in size and weight. and piss off mustangII owners.

About the same thing as a Towne Coupe, but extra points for details.

That's an easy question. I'd put a blower on a 2006 Mustang GT, otherwise stock. That'll do it.

                Didn't Shelby already try that?

Yeah, and it was too slow, too. Looked good, but it wasn't "pure." Not old enough. You have done well Rockhopper, striking a nerve of mine, and you didn't intend to at all. I've got the wrong car. I've been there, seen it, done it. Not a fit.

The BOP Monzas and the Towne Coupe were both just one step away from the 2+2, the car Bill Jenkins and Don Prudhomme were just barely able to make cool.

BTW, how could you leave out the Olds Starfire? Tisk, tisk…..

C'mon, just because they aren't Corvettes or Porsches?

I don't mean at race tracks. "Not old enough" is the thing in the circles I tried to run in. Not a fit at all. Not even close.

I was talking about the fast part, not the pure part.

Damn those new cars are fast. You go to all of the effort to improve something old and those new cars are stupid fast. Way too fast. Faster than some of the owners who have the cash to acquire them. I mean, they are fast.

I'm sorry, carry on. As we were. I derailed us again.

No I feel ya on that. Back when they came out with the turbo 300Zs and Mitsubishi Eclipses I feared they would get wrapped around immovable objects like trees and telephone poles en masse because they were TOO fast and reasonably affordable. Didn't happen. But there IS that thing with Mustangs and spectators.
