VW built less than 270 of these in '51. There was no dedicated Samba assembly line yet, and they started "production" in March or April, meaning they turned out a grand total of less than 2 per day.

That translates to what basically amounts to Handmade Prototyping.

This very early one has been rotting in a meadow for 60 years. Follow along as it is repaired and saved - not simply Vin swapped onto a new shell of reproduction panels.

For those of us who do not speak fluent Volkswagen - a Samba Bus is the equivalent of a Tri-Five Chevy Nomad. Top of the line, limited production, scarce as hen's teeth. Wicked expensive today.

I was wondering what happened to that bus, I remember when they found it a couple years ago.

Here's another one you'll like, this bus used to be the 'cabin' of a Chris Craft boat. busben from thesamba is putting it back together.
He's the guy who restored the 'torched' Quality Sound deluxe, and what was left of the Tocksfors woods bus.
