Friday morning and it's pretty close to what I had hoped to accomplish. It's just mocked up and put back to being an AWB.

There was a pile of parts that came with the car but I discovered they fit later Rancheros. During the week I managed to find a good tailgate, 66 only front fenders, headlight doors and grille, taillights door hinges, a full set of bed trim, and get everything cleaned or painted and put on.

A little more history on the car. When Bud won the Super Stock title at Indy in 65 he recieved a new 65 Barracuda and a Ford 427 high riser from Holman Moody. He sold the Barracuda and at Ford's suggestion used a Ranchero to build his match racer. Ford provided quite a bit of backing for the car including a C6 transmission and stall converter. At the end of 1966 Bud sold the car to drag racer and Ford dealer John Casey. John had bought the well known performance dealer Willis Ford in Waterbury VT and renamed it Faysey Ford. The 66 427 Fairlane the dealership ordered was never a strong runner and John looked for something that was a proven performer. The Ranchero came north and was painted white, gained a 4 speed and a set of tall injector stacks. John raced the car at Milton Dragway in VT and possibly over the border into Canada.By 1969 it was retired, sold, parted out and changed hands a few times before ending up in a field in northern VT where I found it.

June or July 1966, Bud's driveway. The car has never been registered for street use and has been a race car since it was new.

THIS THING IS OVER THE MOON FANTASTIC!!!

I know you'll make this thing better than it was in 66!

It's funny how they just threw these things together back then, it was a fresh free car, a blank canvas, and they just dove in and made it work with whatever they had!
There's always something new to learn.

Thanks guys. I had to dial back the car stuff for a while but I'm getting back to being able to spend time in my shop again. I have been building another car I'll post on, it's cool and dirt cheap.
