President just went on "SPECIAL REPORT" and grounded all USA planes

Ed, is the plane that bad or do you think the crashed airlines' airliners were perhaps modified?

At this point I don't know what to think. I have a couple of suspicions, but without the background they are just speculation. I don't know the systems that affect flight controls (assuming it is a flight control issue......could be in the hydraulic or autopilot, or stall, air data computer, or whatever system...........you get my point). Could be a poor training issue, or a misleading or difficult checklist.............too many unknowns.
Some aircraft have systems that sense that the aircraft needs to change attitude, like lowering the nose to gain speed, and are built to do just that. Most can be over-ridden by the pilot, but some may not. (The Air France computer problem over the Atlantic a few years back comes to mind.) You may also remember the 737s that became lawn darts for awhile a few years ago......Some systems have a simple switch that allows for quick powering down of a malfunctioning system where others will have a circuit breaker that must be located, identified, then pulled, which uses up more precious time.
The best thing to do at this point is let the FAA and manufacturer sort it out and find a solution. I agree with grounding the fleet until the problem is identified and fixed. And prayers for the families of those lost.

      hope they find it.

a common complaint, the only complaints official is nose down involuntary between changes.. control related. autopilot and manual.
being so close to the ground, 6 minutes out is hardly at speed.
I am guessing it did them in.

I remember the breaker pulling days..and each plane veered off original plans to so many mods (TCTO) it was very hard to find the right one.
An APU gone wild nearly killed us and the plane and whatever else would have gone with a refueler jets kaboom.
try pulling a breaker with smoke too thick to see, but playing braiille and remembering when the panel was last seen like an image.

I pulled the battery while the apu going crazy was still charging at it.
      it finally shut it off.

I was back at the base where I crewed KC-135(R)'s about a year & a half ago to give my son-in-law from out-of-state an on-board tour of one. The airframe was in an inspection at the time so it was inside & all of the floor panels were up. When we were ready to move to the flight deck, my good friend Wade, who was acting as our escort, told me to "check this out". I was surprised to see a large computer screen residing where the fuel panel used to be located. It contained that entire function & lots of others. My first reaction was "If you lose that (the computer goes down) you would not be able to transfer fuel". Or do any other function on it for that matter. So my money says it will probably come back eventually to some kind of computer program problem.

One of the news stories I read about it said something like the plane experienced a severe vertical velocity issue. I don't think I've ever heard of a plane crash being described quite that way before. They've got so many PC kids writing news stories these days.......yeah, the plane crashed. It sure did.

                Some interesting analysis here:

When the first 737 MAX entered service in May of 2017, it was considered a major milestone for Boeing. For nearly a decade, the aerospace giant had been working on a more fuel efficient iteration o…
