I spent my sophomore year in high school in Hawaii and his music was everywhere. More so than even the Beach Boys. The British rock stars had just begun to come onto the music scene. I've seen videos of Jimi playing both lefty-strung guitars and righty-strung guitars. Someone said he didn't much care - he just played.
