  • Gas Explosion in Durham, NC destroys automotive history

This morning a gas explosion in downtown Durham, NC took with it one dead and 17 injured. It also destroyed a building that was a Studebaker dealership as early as 1928. It still had the Studebaker logo on the building. It had been repurposed a while back. It was had a restaurant and offices I think. Also a building that was storing a Porsche collection was destroyed possibly taking the Porsches with it.

    Story here: https://www.newsobserver.com/news/lo...226255170.html

Check here for info on the building:

No. Germany can always make more Porsche stuff. Studebaker stopped production in 1996, so your relief is well founded.

According to the article, it was built in 1925 and a dealership called "Henry's Motor Sales" was started in 1928, but closed around 1930. It became Brown's Auto Supply on July 1, 1943.

you know, I'd swear I am whiffing propane reliefing as the tank knows spring is here as snow falls.

          reminds me to keep alert.

the temps are going to fly high here soon.. we rarely stay winter this long.

sucks losing old buildings that are known to be that stable. holding antiques is confidence.

Darn shame. I hate to see any fine old building lose its life but, of course, that's entropy.
