That danged new gas cooking rig, that thing....well, we don't have it yet, not at all. And it wasn't cheap, not as gas grills go. Not Weber expensive but it was mid-level expensive. More than most.

Let me start this story with something positive. Walmart.com has a great website, they sure do. it's almost TOO easy to shop. Their site even suggested I simply go up the street and just buy the darned thing here locally. I could have, but I can't move it around. I couldn't get it onto or off of the truck.

They hit my credit card immediately. Charged, and paid for on the last statement. But there's been an issue. Something's wrong. It's been too long. For this particular major purchase, they're not using UPS or FedEx or the US Postal Service. They're using somebody I've never heard of. And we keep getting automated messages on our land line from them on the answering machine, day after day almost. Friday instead of Wednesday. Saturday instead of Friday. Tuesday instead of Saturday. Pushing the delivery date away, day by day.

Sue Unit finally got on the computer toady. The WalMart shopping account is in her email name but on my credit card. She forwarded me an email. Click this link to schedule a delivery date. Well, how about we schedule it for two weeks ago? Something is wrong, bad wrong with this whole deal.

About the only thing we use Walmart for is motor oil . It's probably 35 to 40% cheaper than anywhere else around here .

The WalMart web site is a nightmare for me because I like to pay the lowest price, silly me. They will have multiple listings for the same item, even without considering outside vendors. Amazon I refuse to spend money on the privilege of spending money. It was fun at first, but they kept jacking up the price. Plus the prices on their items are NOT what they used to be. So I put up with the games WalMart plays. And if EITHER of them says they CAN'T ship it fast BEWARE!

i still check amazon first for everything--if i can find it on
prime or free ship, i order it. hawaii SUCKS for shipping
stuff in, case in point the straight front axle for the 55 from
speedway. $895 for the kit, and then $800 more to ship.....
          NOPE!!!

so the wife ordered it as an "outside purchase" thru her work,
they charged me 25% of the total to 'resell' it to me and then
shipped it in their weekly container for free. so i paid $225 or
so instead of $800 to ship. it got here in 11 days. im ok
          with that !

Rue de le merde. The podunk delivery company's live tracking page claims my gas griddle cooker got delivered yesterday afternoon. It may very well have been delivered to somewhere but it for sure as heck didn't get delivered to our house. Another round and rash of aggravation and litigation. There's a lot to be said in favor of brick and mortar purchases in person, whenever you're able to do it.

not that it is relevant BUT I when I ordered my air compressor - the tracking claimed it was delivered when the trucking company let the local podunk delivery company pick it up. It was very hard to get a contact number for the local company but in did finally show up in a couple more days

Ohhh it's on now - I've got the credit card company on it as we speak, I'm on hold. As you say, Podunk Shipping has virtually no contact info available....

EDIT: Well, now I've gone and done it. I've filed an official dispute to a charge. I've had credit cards for over 40 years and I've never disputed a charge. That's a lot more turmoil than I ever wanted. I just want the damn package. I'd far more rather have the package.

Go to Home Depot and hire two grill handling specialists.
Go to Wally World and buy it.
Have them load and unload it.
                  Don't overpay the grill handlers.
                  Fire it up!

I wouldn't doubt it they delivered it to the wrong front porch. We had a critical shipment for Unit delivered to the wrong front porch in our neighborhood, packed in dry ice. The addresses are confusing, but only if you don't have GPS, which I would have thought delivery folks would have as default.

We went driving up the street, looking. I "stole" Unit's package off of a front porch about a block and a half up the hill - that's our package, delivered to the wrong 141 with an entirely too similar street name. I've also stolen one of our packages off of Superman's front porch while they weren't home. Another time Mrs. Superman came knocking, "I think we got your package, and it's heavy."

That's when I put the biggest numbers on the front of the house that I could mount, as visible as possible. Obvious. I'm giving everybody the benefit of the doubt, I'll wager that's what happened. Again.

Somebody got a gas grill, a really nice one.

                      Re: The Shipping Pissedivity Factor

When Mrs. Superman notified me about our package being on their porch, my mind went reeling. There she is, that's her, and she's always in a hurry. Her car never cools off. Not a moment to spare. I knew what it was, that was Red's new rear end gears, and I had messed up the order. I caught it and I called them about it, me having messing up the order. But it was too late, it was already out for shipment. That was the best "bad" deal I can remember being involved in and it was entirely my own fault.

I was BangShifting and shopping and checking emails at the same time, distracted. So I ended up having the car parts site going on two different tabs on the same browser. I ended up ordering two identical ring and pinion sets, plus all the supporting parts and hardware. Dang right that box was heavy.

There stood Mrs. Superman. I've got to do this NOW. How do I....I know, the creeper. So I got the shop creeper out of the garage, somehow got the box off of their porch and onto the creeper. That was Step 1. Then, down their sidewalk and down their driveway and across the street and into our garage. Hunched over pushing and grunting and cussing. I was upwardly mobile up until that point so I was able to do that. But that did me in, down for another week.

                        Re: The Shipping Pissedivity Factor

I don't quite know what to do. And I don't quite know who to be mad at. I've always had 100% success shopping online at Walmart.com. Great results. But WalMart chose Podunk Shipping to do the shipping so now I'm out about $500. Charge paid, no grill, not here. Should I be mad at WalMart for using Podunk Shipping? Somebody stole my grill that I had paid for.

The lady on the phone at the credit card company was very patient and professional. But she could barely speakee de Englee so it was a difficult conversation. All I gathered was that it could take up to 90 days to dispute the charge, through paperwork and snail mail. Should I be mad at the credit card company for having inadequate customer service?

If I was about 3 times my size and if I could ever figure out whose ass to whoop, and if I had an angry temper at all, I'd go whoop somebody's ass. And I'd enjoy it. But I physically can't and wouldn't do any of that anyhow.

The new grill is a "want" not at all a critical need,a bad transaction all the way around. A good deal gone bad. That's a new one for me. That grill is gone, and so is the money.

OMG - I spoke out of turn, venting. I just now called the credit card company to find out what the status of my dispute was. During the automated messages the computer-generated voice said the balance was minus a BUNCH. So I went and looked. Ohhh man, they paid me back for that grill TWICE. Golly Ned, that'll be more trouble I'm sure. But that clears me to order that grill from somebody else. WOW. Okay, I'm not mad anymore.

If you raise hell only about once every 40 years, people listen, apparently. WOW!

Makes me want to order a grill from WalMart. What was that item number again? I'll need to INSIST on Podunk Shipping though.

I've already ordered another one from somewhere else, and it was difficult to navigate their website. We'll see.

Super 2 was sitting beside me on the couch. I asked him, "How good are you at putting things together?" He took a while to answer, he finally said maybe okay as long as I have some directions. Where's those damn directions? I think there was a song about that. But not very many folks at all heard it. Just a few.
