If I had to choose between the two, I'd take the ZR-1 over the '61.
    What about you guys ?

I don't know anything about anything but I would take a pristine 61 over the late model. I mean you could always gut it and update everything if need be

'61 is my favorite. It needs silver coves.

The '61 just doesn't look right with those pimp wheels on it. I've been passed on the tracks by too many that looked like the ZR-1. But I'd take either of them for $1.50. Just to sell it and buy beer with the money.

Nice, that they don't make you choose. That sounds suspiciously like a "charity" that used to get bottom ratings for the smallest percentage of donations making it to the claimed beneficiaries but then it would...it's a raffle where they buy very expensive cars which have to be paid for and which are handed back to ticket buyers. Only money over the top and past administrative and (presumably heavy) advertising expense goes on to whatever charitable cause. All we don't know about is how much of the money taken in the promoter winds up putting in their pockets. So; search: Three pages in all I get is stuff that sounds like advertising for the company, glowing wondrous reviews that sound like they were written by said promoter (they must work very hard at that) and certainly not by any short-end-of-the-stick grumblers. Until you come to a single employee review ( https://www.glassdoor.com/Overview/W...9068.11,25.htm ) that says the place is full of liars and crooks, but doesn't sound much more credible than all the positive ones. Me I'm not much of a gambler (different meaning than risk-taker). This end of the country is surrounded by Indian casinos that deliver fantastic sometimes-incomprehensible wealth to their owning tribes all courtesy of gamblers who don't win, sometimes I wish the whole industry (that, Vegas, the lottery) were illegal but then, grownups should get to choose where to spend their money and I guess you could call it all entertainment.

So anyhow, I'll take them both...both cars, yep. And I wouldn't be selling them for the bucks either, if I won those shiny things I'd wanna keep those shiny things. But I won't, because I'm not buying tickets, until I knew how the scheme worked I'd consider my money not to be spent on risk-taking but rather just gambled away. They sure are pretty though.

I agree with Loren's suspicion about the cash flow path. If we watch enough of those car channels, we'll see those commercials for the "raffle," and it's always two cars -an old one and a new one together. Sometimes they even have a worn out famous person as a pitchman to make it appear credible. Figure how much it costs to run one of those commercials just once and that sucks up probably the cost a few thousand tickets right there.

The '61 is not pristine original, it is pristine Restomod.

Correct, the giveaway is for both cars, but my question was; if you had to choose, which one would it be ?

I'd definitely take the '61 but those wheels have definitely got to go, even before I sold it. I'd be too embarrassed to stand next to that car and pretend that those wheels were my idea.

                      Yeah I saw that...

Apples vs. oranges there, two really different kinds of cars. But... Already having a slammed '59 Impala 'vert and rarely using it, plus we build our own hot rods here and don't buy them, I think I'd be more interested in the new one then.

This being the topic, I flipped through every page of this month's HRM, looking for that advertisement. I didn't find it. Maybe they've figured out it's virtually free to run the promo online instead.

Since I haven't been getting the print magazines I was shocked at how many of these giveaways there have been. Only a few entered into my internet centered view. Seems like a great deal. If you're going to send Hot Rod and Car Craft a few bucks every month, why not these guys too? Everybody involved gets huge breaks on their taxes. Charities get money and you MIGHT get a car or two.

I'd rather buy an ice cream sandwich with the buck and a half. Then I would get something out of it.

A friend had a plan for putting together an event once long ago (we were like 20 yrs. old and didn't wind up doing it) but there was a charity that would allow it's name to be used as the beneficiary for the purposes of promotion for, I think, like 5% of the gate or some flat fee, whichever was more...the figuring was that profit for us would be something like 30%...in that instance. All fair but just know that when you're thinking charities get the money, know they may only be lending their name out for feel-good to make the promoter's scheme work and the amount they actually collect is a pretty small percentage. Better than nothing of-course and that's why they do it.
