I'd guess that it has caps on the circuit board, and they are failing.

I used it to TIG the exhaust together on my FJ40 and it worked fine. This is good because I didn't really want to buy another helmet - however, it did put me in the market.... I figure I'll do a full look at SEMA this year then if something catches my eye, I'll buy it....
