  • SEMA 2019 Day 4

if my count is correct, you're going to see 241 pictures .... so here we go

from the Monorail, you can see the main entry way...

I got there early on Day 4, it paid off with uncrowded pictures of the outside.
    I don't hate this

Jesse Combs jeep that she ran King of the Hammers

I think this was her daily Jeep

I'd mock the rooftop tent, but seriously, she was badass and I figure she'd come back and kick my adze

why can't they all be like this, simple, effective

    I have no words

they loaded it with forklift, someone took video

all the bro trucks in the world were here

and bro jeeps - next person who mocks Hummer gets this picture as response

    this is more like it

these are meant to allow lower-cost entry into Ultra4 racing

    Yes please

    oh god no

and in all of that trash, this rose appears

    oh yeah, it got worse

    and it has a BFF

    blutooth driveshaft is de rigor

it's amazing how far racing has come since this was bleeding edge

thankfully there were real overland vehicles there too.... nicely done Colorado

sidewalls getting a bit thin, but neat truck

I probably pictured every blazer... all 4 or so of them

it's better then angry eyes but only just barely

the little brother that tries too hard

I'm certain Ford spent more then a little bringing broncos in this year

neat concept, but couldn't pull a wet fart out of a hooker

as I said before, nice Colorado... errr... Ranger...

these have become popular.... not quite sure why

    note the portals

My issue with these is they're already well known for being weak at the suspension attachment joints, this just seems like a good way to make UTV mechanics the new century millonaires
by 9 (it was 8:30) this was packed

and then, on occasion, someone brings a Jeep that could do actual off-road - they were very rare

Oh look, Jeep copied Hummer.... again... and now without the hate - if my wife replaces her current portable kennel with another Heep, this would be a good setup

almost off-road capable... but no front driveshaft... yeah....

    another rarity

    overland Van.... free granola bars

if only they put a jet on it

the big gold/white blazer with the C50 nose, same builder. What's cool about this truck is the rear doors were extended making this very useable

diesel (like you'd put anything else here)

    just like GM never made

    with seats that support

this gives a better view of the door

tracks? I think this is only 2wd and don't quote me but fwd...

Ford brought the race Broncos while beating the holy hell out of Raptors on the track

if I have to tell you who this belonged to (or the one next to it) we cannot be friends

    the one next to it

    the Camaro from Thursday....

starting to really like this body style.

    a Roxor

    some may like this

compare the Rtech truck's rear doors to this...

    cool c10

    BBR might like this.... maybe

Fab5 with aero - note the 3rd brake light on the center defuser

Hot Wheel before, now real, now Hot Wheel red winner

Billet 5th wheel with teflon insert.. cheap, I'm sure

not sure, but fairly certain Barry would like this

everyone knows a tire cannot turn without being signaled... this one, has that covered

maybe even this - I know I do

    Steampunk... I don't hate this

this is cool for a bunch of reasons

    but mainly for this...

    a Ferrari used in anger

    early was so nice

    triple stack car lift

we keep getting promised these.... new Samurais

    Past and present DSE rides

    my preference

not bad, not bad at all

    this isn't terrible either

there were some neat cars in the public area of the show... I liked the Camaro but not in love with these

    stunning Nova

    Hummer renaissance?

nice car, but have shoeboxes gotten boring because there is nothing new?

    nice

Oh look a BMW... errr.... Supra.... strangely this was the only one I saw

      gorgeous Nova

      DSE Camaro

      'fire' truck

in the paint area, there were neat cars/trucks/motorcycles.

      Paint not chrome

      396 SS Chevelle Convertible

I like Ian Rousseau. I think his ability to create is amazing. There was a video of him talking in the background and he said he didn't care what people thought of him or his work... fair enough, so here it goes. I think this only looks good on TV or in electronic medium. in person a charitable comment would be cobbled.

look at the intake under the top for an example... that roughness is terrible paint - not finished, not smoothed, just blown in and screw it.

I think the days of TV cars is fading and when stuff like this never reappears will be too soon. I'd be embarrassed to show it to anyone, let alone the biggest trade show for aftermarket.... it shows what shouldn't be done for certain.
compare to Welder Up - they build show cars that can stand up to scrutiny....even Foose and Overhaulin' grew up and stopped building crap (the amazing push to show cars)

      this Datsun

      Camaro with questionable design choices

        another well done truck

        the outside of the datsun

fun listening to people, a guy was throwing some knowledge down about how this was a repro.... sign on the front says otherwise

        Not a Nova

        another nice Camaro

the Corvette collection - where the guy bought one of every year - is being sold off or raffled off, these two are going via ticket sales

these were sprinkled throughout the show

ya know, if they can put Toyota on a Top Fuel motor, I can put an LS in my Buick

not sure why an altimeter is needed in a car, but hell, SEMA

just another perfect truck - I think was from the car sales company now builder in Louisiana

Coyote powered bent side... it's a KC (formerly gas monkey fame) truck

pictures do not do this Foose car justice

pictures do not do this car justice either

        a Blazer, how odd

I like fast cars, and this would be properly fast

another fast car (when it runs)

nope - not sure what Strope was planning but not in love with this

this is an all new buzzsaw

I was kind of distracted because I had just spent 30 minutes talking to one of my heros - Gale Banks.... what a neat guy.

Nice frame.... IMO this is how you bring a project car to SEMA

the DSE Camaro is an optimized torque arm, this is the same idea

notice the quick change? nice upgrade from a 9"

okay, those are non-melted... this one is melted... it's the Paradise Fire truck owned by a nurse who survived the fire and Toyota gave him a new truck.... maybe stop building plastic trucks, toyota?

          otherside is in great shape.

Cummins had a display for the 2.8

          nice Mopar

          I've always liked the Vickis

          another nice Mopar

the car and its designer (I'm tired, can't remember his name)

more DSE - and yeah d*psh*t, you're in the picture....

          cool

          beautiful

I kind of got in trouble... it is stainless and I did touch it.... the guy across the car didn't believe me

          this would be fun

          nailed it

anyone wants a size comparison of the various auto GM trans... 10 speed, 8 speed, 4 speed all L80s

          and now with 6 speed

You asked... here it is the Bonneville 2+2

            dang it

Mercury Marine LS - quad overhead cam

blue was the color this year at SEMA

            those wheels cost 25k

            My favorite car at SEMA.....

I'm okay with this because they really do use it in anger

oh just a RHD 35 Chevy coupe

The Aussie and NZ contingent was strong this year...
for the one or two bug lovers here

it's even for sale - note the practical bed? perfect for hauling mulch on honey-do day.

              top 10 cool

I think this is the "has all the modern touches" Camaro, flush glass, show car seats, different door handles, etc.

              different, just like everyone else

and I'd rather have this on any day ending in Y

800cc motorcycle motor.... car went from 30 hp to nearly 200

              some kid's Camaro

              nice

              some TV guy's car

SEMA is a place where people come to demonstrate their newest products, break into a market, or simply get a break. It's all about people who work very hard and SEMA is a celebration of that hard work. Maybe none typify that guy more then Brian Lohnes - who took over a barely-handing-on forum and branded into a respected place for automotive news. I think he eventually would have made the majors without the forum (though without his work announcing would never have had this opportunity), but the work he did here networked into his brand.
Even the bro trucks are people who followed a dream despite the shipload of naysayers. It's fun to watch, from meeting up and coming YouTubers, to established players, TV personalities, industry icons, and friends from years past. I highly recommend going if you can, and who knows, maybe it will launch your dream career as well.

Thanks for taking the time to share these photos.
Curious if the Mercury Marine LS quad cam will share anything with the new Corvette?
GM and Mercury Marine did collaborate on the C4 ZR1 program back in the early 90's

Mercury Marine used to be exclusively GM; that's not true anymore - so will GM allow them into their halo program? I really doubt it.
the motor is no slouch, though

When Mercury Marine was developing the original ZR1 they also had a relationship with Yamaha as this was the very early development of the outboard 4-stroke development.
I worked as a contractor for Merc marine at the time, and my Dad worked in the foundry for a zillion years.
That said, I think the chances that Merc 4 cam head will be bolted to the top of a corvette flat-plane engine is unlikely, I do suspect there was at a minimum some shared R&D.
