speaking of winters castings....another friend has a
OTC replacement L88 with the winters stamps. he
did a stock except for .030 piston rebuild, even
used a crane repop L88 cam.

thats a 430hp rated engine, with the overbore, headers,
and everything else 100% stock it dynod at 513hp... i knew
that thing made more than 430hp but thats like 80hp
more than rated! good stuff. no wonder they are legendary.

there was also that 427 on the front page of bangshift
that made 500hp through factory vette manifolds.....
I keep telling people that my 427 is old and only 300 hp.... they don't believe me.

thats because youre SUPPOSED to tell em its a 396..

and the reason it runs so loud/rough is its got 3 oil fouled
plugs and a hole in the muffler.

and its actually my younger sisters car.

race? i dunno, its pretty slow....maybe if you spot me 2 cars and the move...

so i dropped by bobbys yesterday, he was flattered that i thought of
him and how much that tank may be worth, but in his words " i gave
em to you, its yours-use em if you like, or sell em if you like and use
the money to buy other stuff to finish the car".

so im going to run it. the fact that he gave it to me is worth much
more than the monetary value of it to me.

anyone know where i can get the gasket that seals the fliptop cap?

"fake gasser life" here i come, dorkyness be d@mned!

I wouldn't sweat the cap gasket. A puke tank needs to be vented. That's sort of the whole idea of a puke tank. Another interesting wrinkle is that some of them I saw on eBay came with a hand pump to pressurize them before each run. Not good for cruising but interesting for good flow to a race motor.

I'm Still shocked at what folks will pay for something,
but as the old saying " They are not making anymore".
                    Or are they
This is slowly changing, 3d printing might at some point if it gets cheap enough make it so, you can re-pop a part not made in 30+ years.
I've watched a bunch of you tube video's on the home forge furnace to melt scrap
                    tin/aluminum. And sand casting.
That even the person at home could cast a bracket to hold a tank like the o/p.
It is truly amazing what you can do today.
